restruants get no money from tastecard. They were told they would get more business and tastecard holders would spend more on drinks and tip well. This doesnt happen,,they drink tap water and leave no tip.....spend
    about £15
  • I just signed up for a tastecard - they are doing a 30 day free trial at the moment so I thought i would try it out. The website now says that its £80 for the year. So is it not that great? Is it just for eating out in restaurants or takeaway too?
    Thanks

It's good value for money providing you actually read the terms and conditions.

Basically, if you're expecting to turn up at restaurants without a booking on weekends then it's no use.

If you're happy to book, even you only book 30 minutes in advance, and go out during the week then chances are you'll have covered the £80 cost within 3 or 4 uses(less if you hunt around for a voucher code and sign up for £30).

I use mine roughly 5 or 6 times a year saving about £20-£30 each time so it's definitely been worth it for me.

I don't know of any take aways that accept it.

We have had a taste card for while now and haven't encountered this problem, we have however not been able to use it in a restaurant listed as we didn't make a reservation. Should say the t&cs on the website/app for each individual restaurant - may be worth dropping tastecard an email.

I believe tastecard already do this. Certainly in my area nearly all the restaurant listings show the "Call" icon which shows when you click on it "You must telephone book in advance and mention tastecard". Some of them also show the "Book" icon which says "Online booking is available for this restaurant". There are a few restaurants which don't show either icon so I assume they don't require pre-booking.

Well, I've just clicked on the link to apply for a 3 month free trial of Tastecard as Martin advertised and it says I have already been a member of a free trial in the past. Yet Martin said that it was available if you've had a free Tastecard trial in the past. :(

Does anyone know why I've not been able to request one please?

  • Tastecard probably do!

I had one before and got my free trial again, if that info helps...
    Friendly greeting!
  • If I am close to a restaraunt I have gone in and joked if they would like me to phone them and book.
They certainly cant play the "fully booked" card if you are their and it is empty.

I've gone to restaurants many times without booking and so far I have not been refused. I would never risk it if I was travelling a significant distance.

The 3-month free trial even for those of us who had had one before was available up to 11.59 pm on Wednesday. Did you try to get it on Thursday or Friday? (I assume you tried Friday morning as you said you had "just clicked".

They had issued a card to me in the past but there was no problem when I applied on Wednesday morning.
