Got one a year or so back, problem was that it automatically renews so they have stung me for 50 quid , Didn't know till I received an email saying they were going to debit my account. Tried to cancel, as was a week before the expiry date, but they refused, pointed to the small print I had ticked. Be warned0

How do you get the card for free or for £29.99?
I have the free 3 month trial but would be interested to know how to get the annual card for cheaper!0 -

I doubt you'll get it for free, but they regularly run discounted prices. I've not seen it below £29.95, but try calling them up and asking, the worst they can say is no.0 -

They frequently advertise at £29.99.
For free, occasionally companies use it as a promotional device and will give you a free card for doing X. For example last year ICICI Bank gave you one free if you used their currency exchange to change £500 (the deal was advertised on this site), and previously Carphonewarehouse if you bought a phone (but then the cards were all over ebay).0 -
We have just bought a card for £29.99 after our 2 month free trial expired. I waited and waited for them to offer me the lower price and got to £49.99.....I then used Google and found it discounted on a gift website.0

Just to say it is worth seeing if Zizzi or pizza express will accept your card without booking ahead.
I was in zizzi the other day and assumed I couldnt use it as I hadnt booked ahead and I had a 50% off main meals code anyway.
Then I saw someone else use theirs and thought I would try it as it would be a greater discount. This time it was accepted without any question so it is worth asking!
I love my tastecard - got it free via the magazine subscription deal. The other week I saved £60 at a birthday meal in our local indian!0 -
I'm on my second year of Tastecard, paid £29.99 each time following a 3 month trial. Last year I certainly saved more than I paid but have had it for around 4 months so far this year and haven't used it once, especially as caf! Rouge no longer participate in the scheme.0

I bought a year's Tastecard membership for £29.95 and was looking forward to using it. Looked on the Tastecard website for local restaurants and found one we liked (Basil in Bromley, Kent) and chose what we wanted using the online menu. Went to the restaurant and noticed that they were doing 50% off for everyone (so no discount for Tastecard holders) BUT they had put their prices up considerably, and what we wanted to have was double what was on their website. We would therefore have paid twice what we were expecting to pay (as were expecting the web prices less 50% (or thereabouts)).
We left without ordering and I posted a bad review on the Tastecard website, to save others from having the wasted journey that we had. I also emailed Tastecard telling them what had happened. It took them some time to get a response to the restaurant, but they then admitted that they had not updated their web menu (!) and corrected it.
Of concern is that, Tastecard refused to publish my review as - even though the restaurant gives no additional discount to Tastecard holders than it does to non-holders (as everyone gets the '50% off' the inflated prices - Tastecard felt publishing my review would have reflected badly on the restaurant!
I would therefore take reviews that are on the Tastecard website with a bucketful of salt, as they only seem to publish the positive ones.
I have cancelled my Tastecard membership and would not recommend them at all if that is how they do business. They seem more concerned with protecting the restaurants than in helping their subscribers.0 -
There are many mixed reviews about tastecard and or any other diners card such as gourmet, hi life etc.. but by far the taste card is the best. Before purchasing such a card, it is essential that you check how well supported your area is, and get a trial card (which you can continue to get unlimited, if you know how
). Some restaurants have restrictions usually not fridays or saturdays, and to be honest i really do not understand why diners would want to eat out at the weekend, when the restaurants are much more busy, where service and waiting suffers, personally we prefer in the week anyway, more peaceful, relaxing and personal attention from waiting staff and no waiting. Also some restaurants do offer there own offers without the use of the card, and some do artificially increase the prices just as almost everywhere does tastecard or not, it appears the latest marketing tactic used in retail (inflating price then reducing it to imply its on offer) is now practiced in restaurants. I know of one local to myself increased the price on steaks and reuced the size of the steak at the same time lol, vote with your feet, and of course no longer dine there, but many other places are supported locally by the tastecard. We dine out every week, and save at least a minimum of £25 per visit, for example an exceptionally good restuarant in our area typically would cost £25 p/p for 3 courses, and the tastecard reduces it to £12.50 p/p, you will be lucky to pay that at a budget pub chain for 3 courses, nevermind a very good rated restaurant experience. Of course experiences differ, depending on your taste of food and how well supported your area is, tastecard is not for everyone, just those who its suited to, hence use the trial first. We save several hundred a year with the card, and as for the auto renewal contract, buy as a gift instead with no auto renewal contract, and buy the card when its on offer such as £30 recently. Honestly you can not go wrong, provided you checkout your area first, and use a few trial cards, you can essentially get tastecard for nothing, with a little trick every trial period whether that be a month or 2 or 3 months, essentially its money for nothing.
