Tastecard

Has anybody else had a restaurant listed on the site say they are not a member?

I visted the Metro Fish Bar (Whitefield, Manchester) yesterday (listed on Tastecard) website and was advised that Tastecard had put them on the site without their permission? They had asked to be removed but are still showing.

No discount was therefore offered.

Has anybody else had this problem?

Wondering if it's Tastecard or the restaurant who are lying!! Someone clearly is!!

I haven't even received my Tastecard for the "3 months free" offer that I was sent yet.:(

I've been wondering the same - still no card. Has anyone received their's? It would be handy to know
  • I haven't received my card and feel embarrassed as I sent the link to my friends and 4 of them signed up to it too. NONE of us have received our "free" card, so much for the good deal. We have however all been spammed by tastecard so they have received our applications. I don't think Martin should be promoting this dodgy company who are using MSE and Martin's good name to phish for people's emails addresses.

I would be interested in hearing about others experiences with tastecard. Perhaps Martin can follow up the missing cards if this proves to be a widespread problem?
  • i received my card yesterday with a 3 month trial, so yes they do come eventually

not overly impressed though as in my area its mainly pizza shops :(

We've been to Metro Fish Bar tonight and used our card for 2-4-1 without any problems.

OP When you rang to book did you tell them you are a Taste Card holder like it clearly say's in the terms and conditions then when you arrive tell a member of staff you have a taste card? Or did you just turn up and expect them to knock 'x' amount off your bill?

We decided we would eat out tonight, called them and asked if they accepted the Taste card which they replied 'Yes but you need to book a table' so we booked a table for 10 minutes later, had our meal, saved £15 on the bill and walked out happy :)

  • I ordered mine on 29 September, and it came today, 7 October. The instructions are to check the website to choose a restaurant, then ring it to book a table, mentioning that you are a Tastecard member. I can't tell if it's any use or a con yet, but they haven't got any card details, so I can put up with the possibility of any hassling at the end of my free month!
  • I paid £29.95 for a 12 month taste card. I've used it a couple of times already and saved more than I paid for it at one trip to Livebait in Manchester (only two of us were eating). I'd say make sure you book in advance if that's what the restaurant requires and if possible take the name of the person confirming the booking. We eat out a lot and can see this saving us quite a bit of money over the year.

It's not a con my housemate and brother have had one and they've come in very handy. It's better in big cities as there's more choice. It was Taste London, but have since expanded. My brother got the 3 month trial a couple years ago, then didn't renew until they offered him a big enough discount for 12 months. As long as you follow the instructions like phoning to book a table and some restaurants have restrictions like not saturdays. It's good if you eat out enough. Found some really cool restaurants in London because of Taste
