Those "twenty's plenty" signs with the green border around the number 20 have no legal significance, which brings me onto another pet hate.

People who put those things up rather than getting a proper traffic order to lower the speed limit. All you are going to do is create a speed disparity, and animosity between people who think it's a legal sign and people who think it's a waste of metal. Particularly when people still obey that 20 sign at 11pm.

Same applies to the yellow or white "Max speed" signs that appear around roadworks and on certain corners, such as the M5 through Birmingham. It it has no red border it's not a valid speed limit sign.

I had a weird incident at the weekend. Driving home from picking up my car from the bodyshop after having the front bumper sprayed, so in no mood to be speeding along the quiet motorway. Sitting in Lane 1 doing circa 57mph - keeping up with the HGV's but with no need to overtake them. A Corsa approaches from the rear doing I'm guessing 70mph and proceeds to sit 2 inches off my bumper.

Plenty of opportunity to overtake on the quiet motorway but decides my bumper is far more comfortable. On the basis that I physically can't get out of his way and there are 2 other completely empty overtaking lanes that he can be using I slow to 55 - still there, slow to 50 - still there and so on until we get to 40 mph and eventually the moron overtakes. This went on for several miles and past numerous junctions and as soon as he overtook me, he was back up to 70 mph.

I must admit I didn't get angry, I just felt uncomfortable having someone put my life and their life in danger for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Some very bizarre behaviour out there.

Makes you quite concerned that anyone can drive these lethal weapons...

A major reason why I have the biggest car I could find. If some fool want to crash into me I want as much metal between us as possible.

HGV drivers from foreign country who over take as not limited like Uk HGV drivers.

Yes they are. All HGVs registered after 1/1/1988 THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE EU have to have speed limiters fitted and operational. It is because it is an EU wide legislation that we are set to 56MPH in the UK which is 90KPH, a handy figure for the Eurozone.

Anybody else have any pet hates with other drivers...?:o

Yes. The drivers of people carrier type vehicles. Having a 'Baby/Little Princess/Cheeky Monkey' sign in your back window doesn't mean that you no longer have to indicate, give way or look where you are going.

People who speed past schools or park on the yellow zigzags while dropping off their kids.
People who speed up when they see you trying to get out at a junction.
People who reverse off their drives instead of onto them.
Inappropriate speeding.Speed in itself isn't necessarily dangerous.
People on the mobiles when driving.
Kids in the car with no belt on.

I assume you are one of these morons then.

If car A is moving out from lane 1 into lane 2 then it should indicate. If Car B is in lane 3 moving in to lane 2 how will B know what A intends to do?
You clearly missed my point as I mentioned moving from lane 2 to lane 1. I shall be more polite than to call you a moron though :)

One should use their indicators to indicate their intentions to others. It therefore improves your observation skills if you look for when and when not to indicate. For example there's no point indicating on a roundabout when there's no other cars, or cars waiting to pull out to know you're taking the next exit. There is no excuse for not using indicators at all when in the presence of others.

    Today I had:
    1. The idiots who drive at 20mph for no reason accept they saw the lone yellow speed camera on the road. The speed limit is 30mph.
    2. A white van driver driving up my a*se because of those in front driving at 20mph. He only realised when we went round a bend that the reason I drove so slow was the cars in front.
    3. 2 adult pedestrians walking out in front of me while moving at 30mph. I felt like running the second one over. I didn't but gave him a shock.
    4. A load of people queuing in one lane when they could use both lanes then filter into the right lane near the junction as the signs indicate.
    5. Giving way to 3 people indicating as I could see they wouldn't be able to get in and them sitting there.
    6. A van turning right and expecting me with no traffic behind me to allow him to go in front - no chance.

But my biggest bug bear is that during half term and other school holidays on roads that go from 3 lanes into 2 or 2 lanes into 1 that people don't take turns to filter into the lanes. For some reason when it's not school holidays people manage it fine and the traffic flows.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

    .

It's not always possible to reverse onto a drive or into a parking space where I am.

Luckily lots of people are aware of this and wait.

Oddly though middle age women seem to be the only ones with a problem doing this there as van drivers are actually the most patient in those circumstances.

Same with the alternating ambers on the overhead gantrys. Was going down the M1 recently and there's a new section, pfft can't remember where it's near, but they have put up variable speed limit signs and speed cameras like those on the M42. Went through there, 50 alternating ambers and a big Speed camera warning sign, BMW in the outside lane slows to 50 as I continue at 70 taking extra care that there might be something needing my attention down the road.
