As long as it's done out of ignorance or stupidity. Sadly there are people who do it to continually to cause trouble and fractions! Personally I'd rather see their cars get firebombed than giving them ASBO's! ;)

I totally agree but firebombing risks other peoples lifes too especially the fire brigade, if they are doing it to wind you up then a good old slap would be a lot easier all round.

We used to get cars park opposite our driveway on a very narrow road and it used to drive us nuts, as it made it hard to access our driveway. Why is it when you complain, they always make out you are overreacting and overfussy? Do these people not see it from the other person's point of view or are they simply stupid?

Also, we lived in flat and we had outside parking for the flats only but this idiot who had his own driveway had to park in the flats parking spaces for no reason. In the end I think he did it to wind us up. We got the last laugh, as the chairman of the residents association was a real fusspot about it and we told him who the culprit was:D

if someone blocks your drive and you can't get out then you should contact the police and report him for obstruction and imprisonment, simply you can't get out to do your chores.

another thing to consider is to get a sticker and paste/stick it to his windscreen saying you are blocking a drive. make it look official. if u want u can make it harder to remove

    my preferred method is this

    http://www.asedeals.com/auto_dolly_carts.html

use a trolley jack to lift the car and simply park it in middle of road
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

    thanks for all the replies!

i'm not just being awkward - it's just a stupid, selfish woman who could move the car six feet in either direction to show some consideration but chooses not too. it's a wide residential road where every house has a driveway and she just parks in front of ours rather than in front of a house where it wouldn't matter. if asking her politely (in person or via a note - done both!) doesn't work, i just wanted to know what to do.

there's no issue with the kerb being too high (and if there was it would make more sense to block the drive of the place she's visiting rather than us - or use their carpark round the back!) - she's just an idiot!

next time i guess i'll go take a photo and leave a note saying that if she does it again we will be contacting the council and/or the police - i don't want to be difficult, i just want to use my car when i want!!!

I completely sympathise as we have had this issue before and have resorted to the good old inviting friends to block the culprit in trick etc. This does little to move the vehicle but merely increases the length of time the vehicle sits across the drive.

If the curb is dropped just call the police and they will come and do something about it, but be prepared for a bit of a wait. This is your best bet, the action taken could be a ticket, or, as a friend of mine in Exeter found out, the vehicle was loaded onto a lowloader and towed to the pound leaving him a fine of £40 and a release fee of £120 which helped him to see parking over someones drive is not really the done thing.

    Good luck with it

Correct me if im wrong (But politely please, im sensitive!)

Can you not get the police/council to do something. Make a log book of times and dates and take pictures to back up your claims because as i understood it - where a kurb is dropped it is a right of way and therefore illegal to block it. But be sure that there's not even an inch where you can get out/in or else they won't do anything.:)

Hi melancholly, really sympathise with you on this, some people just don't get it when they block drives/access etc. Most of the time my personal feeling is they do it to annoy and talking to them often ends up heated.
Regarding the law,the law states that you can get them moved on if they are stopping you leaving your drive, but not entering it,stupid isn't it.
Next time they are there, and your car has to be on the drive, call the police and tell them you cannot get out, they will come out and talk to the person for you,but there is no point calling the police if you return home to find your drive blocked, you have no rights then.
We lived with a similar situation for 5 years,it's a silly problem that actually eats away at you and you end up curtain twitching ALL day to see if there is anyone there, can't believe with all the problems we have had, this parking problem affected us to the extent it did,we moved away in the end and now have no neighbours so you would think no drive blockers!??? wrong, now it's the postie van having lunch or someone stopping to take a dog for a run in the fields grrrrrrrr!

I live near a school so people often block drives "just for a minute"

I came out one day and there was a women sitting in her car across my drive, she watched me get in the car , then start the engine and still did not move !!

I got out and walked to her window and got "I'll only be 2 minutes until my kids come" to which she got "if you are here in 10 seconds when I drive out then I'll not be to blame if I hit your car getting out"...the look on her face was priceless !!! but by the time I was back in my car she was moving and never parked there again :)

I'll never forget a friend of mine's dad using his old Volvo estate to move a car blocking his drive to the other side of the road. Priceless!
