annoying person keeps blocking our drive

Options
what can i do about someone who keeps parking and blocking our driveway? they do it in the evenings when the ENTIRE road is empty - on both sides  . if we needed to leave in an emergency we couldn't and it's just really annoying when you have to be somewhere at a set time and have to wait for someone to come out. they appear to visit someone in a flat next door (car isn't around every day) but we don't know them. apart from leaving polite (or even less than polite) notes on the windscreen, is there anything else we can do?

  • How annoying! You could park in the same place he does for a while ...during that time he will park somewhere else and hopefully keep parking there when you start parking in your drive again! It seems unlikely that you will be able to reason with them as they obviously dont care!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

Is it really obvious to the person that they are blocking your drive?

You could get in your car and try to leave and then try and track them down and ask them to move - if they see that you need access they may well not block you again, however if you just ask them to move they might say "I'll move it when you need to get out/in" - depends on what sort of person they are.

I can only access my garage by a lane at the back of my house and it often used to get blocked. I asked the council if they would paint a white line across it to stop people parking - and they did! Notice a few people have these lines in front of their driveways so that might be worth a go too.
At the end of the day this perosn might just be an incosiderate pillock, but a lot of people block raods, double park etc as "Honest I will only be a minute or two"

The above were my nice suggestions - if it was up to me I would go and blow their car up;)
We all evolve - get on with it

Leave your car outside, attach towrope, drag up the road, repeat at irregular intervals...

in a word - yes! there's quite a high kerb which is dropped for our drive and there's a front wall that isn't there for the driveway - and the car sitting 3 feet from the pavement probably gives it away too! there's plenty of room for cars to park on both sides of the road - even in front of our house (or maybe even in front of the place she visits!!)

you'd think that would work - i think they are just too stupid to notice! last week when we eventually found them i told them that it was really annoying especially since the whole road was empty. she didn't even say sorry!

If you know where they go, simply change your habits so that you're always going out to do the shopping after they've parked there. They'll soon get fed up of having to move their car if you knock on their door every day telling them to move their car.

Anyway - you said the rest of the road has a high kerb - are they parking there for any accessiblity issues? Maybe they have a disability or find it very difficult to get out their car where the kerb is. Maybe worth talking to (tactfully) and finding out their reasons for parking there.

  • i can't remember the law on this one but think it is more likely that it is an offence to block you from getting off your drive rather than on it. a call to the police with the registration , speak to a local councillor. if it's not resolved an asbo ? (yes they're now being used at all levels and this t**t seems completely anti-social )

    Hi,
    Again agree with Hammy...............!!
Ask your local council/councillor for an ASBO Diary, you then record events, this can be used for enforcement.
Your Drive,if private,is your right of way.
Therefore highways at county or local ,should act.
Invest in a couple of cones,or(there are usually some left around in roads, not doing anything)!!!!
    Good Luck
    and
    Happy Hols.

I think a simple note on the windscreen or a screwdriver in the tyres would be reasonalbe methods! :)
