  • On the hotel front - just send an email to customer services when you feel up to it.

I complained at a certain Lenny Henry hotel, all they did was ask me to sign a bit of paper and the refund was in my bank within a few days.

Well they made the mistake of sending me a survey about my recent stay and as the comments are submitted anonymously I have copied them into an email to customer services  we will see what happens.

Been asked to submit my electricity meter reading so duly done and when I check with our bill from last year we have used 25% less electricity so very pleased with that :D hoping the dd will go down in the spring when they do the annual adjust it went down a lot last year because we were playing catch up as we didn't pay for electricity for six months as we were the victim of an attempted kidnap by another provider  have to say my present supplier was wonderful throughout the saga and I am very glad to be back with them of course we can't have their cheapest deal as being rural no gas hence oil no dual fuel rate :( this countryside living has a lot to answer for. The only plus side as far as bills are concerned is water as we are not on mains sewers our water bill is tiny but I heard they are thinking about putting everyone on a water meter and if they do we will be badly affected - it's all those baths :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hi DT - I'm sorry you were so weepy the other day .... and your hotel room! Glad you've pasted over your comments into a complaint email, thats something - as you say, every little helps, and when its a cut and paste job, thats doable. Its whats doable that matters, isn't it, after all.

    Take care today too.

  • Yes KC doable is what is needed at the moment I know I should have made a fuss at the time but I was so tired I couldn't face it they made the mistake there in the morning of asking if everything was OK so I did tell them but didn't have time to hang around and show them what I meant and get their feedback. As I needed to be off to meet DS I was surprised to see someone actually as when I have stayed there before it was deserted in the morning.

I am OK so far today.

Hi DT just catching up. Good news that your sons knee seems to be healing. Fingers crossed with regards to the nerves. I had an accident and my tendons were severed in my foot so had major operation to repair them, sounds similar to how you describe. My foot is fine and I can move my toes so I guess it worked. Just have odd occasion when I get a few niggles with it but usually when its cold.

Couple of thoughts about your heating, apologies if I am teaching you to suck lemons but you never know it might be news to you. When my brother became u/e he had a baby and because he was claiming certain benefits he was entitled to help with his heating. He had no heating in the house and they paid for him under a specific grant to have a boiler and rads installed. They do also do upgrades. Also I know of people who have had cavity wall insulation and roof installation as part of the grants for no cost whatsoever. You state that your Mum lives with you and needs the heating on. If she is in receipt of benefit and you have a very reduced income then you may be entitled to some help. Think it is Warmfront that you need to contact. Irrespective of whether you are on benefits some Local Authorities have certain grants available for insulation etc as they are targetted to reduce carbon footprints. I think Polesalot is currently looking into getting something - check her thread for more information. Also have you claimed all that you are entitled to? For example do you need to look after your Mum so may be entitled to Carers Allowance. Have you claimed working tax credit etc? You can ask for an appointment with an adviser in the Jobcentre to do a thing called better off calculations where they look at your current income and the wages of any job you may be interested in (census) and they can calculate all the things that you would be entitled to given the different circumstances. Also - have you considered registering for employment with them and claiming JSA if you are entitled. It can all be done over the phone and they can advise which benefit, if any, you may be entitled to claim.
Sorry if I have overstepped the mark but sometimes the obvious can be missed when you are close to the situation.

  • Cheri thanks for the input but alas we don't qualify for anything benefit wise - as to insulation we have no cavity they are solid walls and we have no loft we sleep in it!

Doesn't Martin have a little search thingy on this site where you can check out all the grants you'd be eligible for? Might be worth a shot?

  • Is the roof insulated DT? Sounds a daft question i know, but my sister moved into a house where some builder had just bodged it..they got extra insulation under the roof tiles and it made a big difference. You can also line the walls with extra boarding and insulation if there is no cavity, but it is an expensive and messy job- which would mean every outside wall doing- redecorating etc.
