Hi DT
Just catching up with you. You sound quite weary with it all, so huge hugs for that :grouphug: I'm sorry things are so tough for you, but Spring is around the corner and so are other positive things.
I think the decision to get back into your garden is a good one, it will give you back far more than just salad and veg, you'll probably find your mojo there too
I've decided to transform our neglected rockery into to a veg plot this year, so will join you in your self sufficiency venture (well - supplementing the supermarket shop, more like). My uncle has an allotment and his advice was to buy small plants rather than grow from seed - as you always end up with more than you can plant. I agree, but for MSE reasons will grow them and put the spares on FC.
I'm sure there will be loads if you put in your request (not sure that you have to offer something first....), as KC said, so you can do it very cheaply.Double_Trouble wrote: »I would also like to look for a breadmaker I can't justify buying one because I gave away a lovely panasonic one in my pre LBM days because I felt sorry for some students that wanted one
This is good karma and so you are due some back soon. Keep 'em peeled on FC, I'm sure you'll find one!
Take care xx0 -
Rather than ignoring your veg plot completely why not cheat a bit and chuck some spuds in. They're great for the soil and deep enough rooted that they can happily compete with most weeds. We strimmed a manky bit of clay the year we moved in and had the most fabulous spuds despite me completely forgetting we'd planted them in the first place.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

All the best with the greenhouse, I love the fact that you are breaking things down into small chunks rather than saying, right this year the garden and we're doing it all from seed!
I think realism and success is a far better recipe

That is a good idea but it does mean I actually have to go to the veg plot and look at it  I was planning to go to the compost bins with my eyes shut :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:out of sight out of mind really does work OH has had a look and says its pretty bad will have to see if he has any old carpet lying around I could put on it for the mo dual purpose it will make it look prettier and stop some more weeds

Realism is definitely something I need to aim for I am definitely guilty of making grand plans and failing miserably so little successes will do me for now.
Right off to find my mojo thanks Macgirl not sure I will find it in the garden though and especially not today it is mighty windy today

I'm sure that mojo will appear shortly - you never know, the blustery wind may help to uncover it sooner than might otherwise have happened xxSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. Well I am not sure I have found my mojobut I have decided to go for the final solution (subject to the necessary long think in the bath that such a major decision requires planned for when I return from Mr. Ts this afternoon:D)
And what is that you may ask?
Well I remember saying a while ago that I would only go back to the law as a final resort well this morning I have had a change of heart. I think this census job fisaco has started me thinking and the fact I keep catching myself contemplating applying for jobs in Mr T's and my daughter sent me an ad for a legal job a couple of days ago. Why am I messing about applying for temporary jobs or contemplating working on the tills when I have qualifications that could earn me a decent wage.
So subject to above bath, a conversation with my best friend tonight for his advice as he is a lawyer I am going to go for it.
I will need to
1. Apply to be restored to the roll of Solicitors - shouldn't be a problem £20 fee
2. Get a practising certificate may need to do a course but would want to anyway see below fee almost £1200  although I would only have to pay 9 months worth as they run from 1st Nov
3. Do some refresher courses - will be desperately needed I am so out of date and will be needed for CPD requirements anyway
4. Sort out CV
5. Get a job
I would apply for locum jobs so that I would have more flexibility about when I work. Spoken to OH that I may have to travel especially initially and be away Monday to Friday as I would have to be prepared to take any job to build up some recent experience although a job where I could commute would obviously be preferable.
The reason for the decision if I don't do it now will I look back in five years and think why have I been scratting around for the last 5 years when I could have got this sorted once and for all. The lack of security worries me if the car breaks or we have major house repairs to do we are in a mess I need to get this debt sorted so that we can have a back up fund. I am worried about the kid's secondary education and in 5 years time we will have to make a decision about that move/pay for private education both of which options are going to cost money and 5 years soon comes around and even with careful budgeting the debt will not be cleared by then under the present circumstancs.
So I am going to be a grown up bite the bullet and get on with it after all that studying I need it to work for me and perhaps second time round I may find I enjoy the job moreI will certainly enjoy the income and this time it will be spent/saved wisely.

DTxx BA(Hons) Law Solicitor (non-practising) at the moment
(sings with joy)Hallelujah!!!!!
You've seen the light - fantastic news :T:T:T Your mojo is back and your DFD is in the postxxx
EDIT: In all seriousness DT, that was my point when I suggested it initially. You were torturing yourself trying to find a solution to a "Get Rich Quick" problem and of course - there aren't any. Solicitors are paid so well that it seemed crazy to me - but I know you had your reasons and I respect that.
Maybe the reasons you left Law won't apply now and as you say, you might just find you enjoy it! I have a friend who I'm out with this evening, who left teaching 10 years ago (long before she had kids) but now is doing a refresher course to get back into to it, as she realised it's what she's good at and will totally fit in with her life as a mother of young children.
Sometimes we need time to let go and stop over thinking, then the right answer seems to appear out of nowhere - when all along it was right there under our nose.
I'm really happy for you and think it's a great decision to enable you to become debt free. Well done :kisses3:0 -

OK I can't help it if I am a bit slow but I get there eventually you did make me smile though :rotfl:whether I will be still be smiling in six months time on a Friday on a bank holiday weekend when everyone wants to move house on the same day is another thing especially if its Friday 13th and clients change their mind about completion (always used to ring all Friday 13ths in my diary so I could specifically check with clients that they were not superstitious about moving that day due to a very trying experience once )

Ah but you will be a well organized solicitor so they won't dare not complete if you tell them to
Glad you have found a solution and one which was in your reach all the time. x
