Hey DT, been at my folks so just caught up and I just want to add to the 'don't beat yourself up' chat. I'm sure we could all have guilt about what we have spent on in the past but ultimately we can't change that, only the future and how we live from now on in.

We can all only experiment to see what works for us as Hypno says and reading the diaries is great for seeing what others do but really we all have to do what works for us. I never posted an SOA either and was thinking about this today actually. The reason I didn't was because I knew my flat was 'too expensive' for me but I wanted to keep it and I have and here I am.

You're on the right track lady and xxx. P.S I'll PM you re bras again. Sorry been a mad week socially!!!

  • Another one here having an "if I had not done this that or the other and just paid everything off (or not spent it in the first place) I could invest in the business blah blah blah moment." Its really hard not to but belts are tightened here too, trying to get new work etc.

I'm on the surveys, vouchers, ebay and anything else I can. I even gone back to shopping in store rather than online as its just up the road (could walk it if I really felt energetic and had a way to get stuff back) as the better deals are going in for a few days at a time - would you believe it but a certain Mr T is now the cheapest in my area!

We can only go forward from where we are, mini LBMs on the way and eventually we'll do it. Then the only long haul will be a flight to a nice beach somewhere exotic :T

Just been reading back the last few pages - I had a busy weekend, in the end, so I'm only seeing all this now .... DT, what you're writing is familiar to me too - that sense that if you'd just done more, and done it earlier, things wouldn't be so bad. We do what we can, when we can. Always. Even right now - I know I could work myself dizzy each day sorting out the house, which is what I did when I first moved in, but the cost was too high, physically and socially. We have to have a life too, and we make the best compromises we can think of at the time.

Keep going - and we *will* hear from the dratted census soon :rotfl:
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • :DI think the census people are taking the p**s if they can't organise the recruitment any better than this goodness knows how they are actually going to organise the census itself and they want us to do training beforehand  it has now been 6 weeks since the interview so much for hearing in 2 or 3 in this case I think no news is bad news

Trip down to cardiff was lovely bright and sunny and short :)
The trip back was bright and sunny and long :(
Surgeon is happy that all the structures of the knee have been reconstructed well. The problem now is the nerve it was intact but badly compressed so they don't know yet whether it is recovering it only does 6mm a week so they will see him again in 6 weeks and see if there is any improvement and if not they will do some tests and if it appears not to be recovering they will either do a nerve graft take out the compressed bit and replace it with a nerve from the skin or else make some kind of new tendon which I didn't quite understand but it looks like a long job and as he is 6'4" he has long legs so from the knee to the foot at 6mm a week is going to take a long time

The surgeon with the heart problem ending up having bypass surgery quite scarey as he wasn't old and seemed fine the day before when we saw him. I like the new surgeon though seems to really know what he is doing and good at explaining things. He also operates on the national rugby team so lots of practice.

The hotel was complete c**p the refurbishment consisted of new carpet and paint. Still smelt damp even on the first floor, bath was chipped and stained and worse still the bathroom was not clean. Had a family room but no settee just one plastic chair to sit on, cold took 5 hours before I could face getting undressed and then no hot water this morning. I will not be staying there again at any price. Not helped by the fact that I knew 1/2 mile down the road there was a nice comfy room with a fantastic shower I could have been staying in.

Interesting to hear about the posts about what we could have done. I love the long haul being an exotic holiday :T:T

I have had my mortgage statement so I have paid off some more debt :)I need to work the figures out but too tired at the mo as I also slept badly in that dratted place.

Had an oil delivery today £713 :eek::eek::eek::eek: we use a lot because Mom has the heating on all the time so not sure if my annual budget for oil is going to be enough just have to try and make this lot last as long as possible.

My new coat finally arrived today could have done with it in Cardiff as it was really cold but I am pleased to get one :):):)

    Off to catch up

A few weeks ago when it was really cold, they were talking on the news about heating oil and bottled gas and how much they've gone up in comparison to mains gas. Seems unfair that people using those fuels don't usually have a choice, as they're not on the mains.

Good news about the coat and hopefully DS on road to recovery.

  • DT - make an official complaint about the hotel and get a refund. It was not as described and no matter how small the charge it was too much.
