_pale_ Okay, I'm definitely glad you guys are wearing that as a tunic, that frightened the life out of me when I thought you were wearing it as a dress, cos DT, you're not a huge amount younger than me
From that reaction, I must've really lost confidence in the last few years while I've been a dfw ... I was never like that before, I always used to wear outrageous things (still do sometimes, as those who saw the hippy chick trousers in August can testify
hopefully).
I'm going to *plan* my sales visits now.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
KC - I normally prefer calf length. So the tunic and leggings was an expanding the envelope/comfort zone idea. But in Rotterdam with everyone cycling, leggings/jeggings/skinny jeans were practically a uniform so it would have been more odd not to!!!
It is a case of expanding the comfort zone again, but if you know the clothes look good and fit well, it gives the confidence boost to help you do it. Also as Hypno says, once you get into the swing, the shopping becomes a more comfortable experience admittedly I still can't go as far as Hypno and say I enjoy it, but I don't hate it as much.0 -
Love the tunic, DT!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

That makes sense. Maybe thats a look I'll go for too - its a normal look round here (apart from the snow!).2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
it is just (!) a case of knowing what suits for the "place" you are now at.....which can be difficult if shopping on your own. I went shopping with a girlfriend a few weeks ago and as we went into H&M, I picked up a top and she practically screamed at me "No, the OLD you would have bought that", at which point I realised that the NEW me is a very different clothes horse!!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. That *is* interesting .... I really am going to have to think about this! Luckily, once my building work is done, both my wardrobes will become accessible (and the plumber's just confirmed he's coming on Friday!!!!). Its sort of about identity, isn't it ... hope this isn't too much of ahijack, DT - I bet you have some thoughts on this (when you're back from Llandudno - was the Great Orme covered in snow or not?)2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Yes, it is all about identity - and therein lies the problem I reckon - we spend so long thinking about everyone else, that we fail to really give consideration to who we are, or (perhaps more importantly) who we want to be.
It has certainly been a journey for me.....and not a bad one, at that - all things considered!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hello DT. I just stumbled upon your diary and was interested to read the last couple of days talk around your shopping trip. Sounds like you had a really good time. I adore that red coat, it looks so sophisticated. Agree that you now need a cossack hat to go with it. If I could afford it I would invest in that coat. I also love the dress and you could easily wear that in so many different ways. I like the idea of thick tights and boots.
I think that the discussion is so right about shopping for where you are at now. Since moving to the country and working from home I live in casual clothes which would shock my old friends and workmates as I had never been seen in a pair of jeans EVER. Now I love to wear jeans, they are comfortable and I feel happy in them. But when I head to Cardiff and into the office I have to wear nice skirts and tops as I would not feel comfortable otherwise (even though on Fridays everybody wears jeans). Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
I too find this very interesting as I've no idea what clothes suit me anymore and I also need to lose a lot of weight so guess the styles will change as I lose weight.
Sounds like you had an excellent time shopping and I think I'll employ Souk when I've lost my weight.I absolutely love the coat and the dress0 -
I know what you mean about identity Hypno, I'm finding clothes that fit etc., and are right for the context, but I always used to be more adventurous, admittedly getting main stream styles at reasonablish prices is relatively OK, but once you want something different too, the price shoots up and finding them isn't easy either.
I know my wardrobe isn't totally right yet. The next stage will be for it to evolve to be more individualistic, although I do basically like classic lines and styles. So it's probably a case of getting the classic core there, and adding the bits as my new individual style evolves. I just wish I'd got a house and sewing machine and knitting things at the moment, I'd be enjoying experimenting and making one-offs
This finding the new me isn't easy!!0
