A few questions on the branch transfer process.. I am going to fill in a form to transfer my RBS account from England to Scotland.

I understand they will transfer DDs, but am I correct that I will have to notify people paying in (employer etc) of my bank account change?
If they transfer DDs over but my employer isn't too quick in changing paying in details.. will the money still go to the new account automatically even if paid to old account/sort code?
Also, will existing manual payments that exist on online banking (to be paid in the future), remain as is and be paid out of the new account?

    Thanks, DJ.
My account transfer has just completed.

Keep an eye on your Direct Debits by using online banking. All but one of my D/Ds transfered with no problems. However, the local council process screwed up the D/D for the council tax (they cancelled the mandate).

RBS did not inform my company that my salary / pension needed to be paid to the new account details, so I sent a letter to my company once all the D/Ds had been transfered okay. However, any transactions that are directed to your old account details are automatically redirected to the new account by RBS so nothing goes missing.

All online banking payments that you have set up will still exist on the new account. On the day your new account is made available to you, your online banking shows the new account in place of the old account - and all your transaction details remain.

Another one for anyone with experiences of internal transfer RBS.

Are RBS to RBS switchers asked to prove identity or under go check via credit search ?

I'm going through the process now after sending the form back last week. They have confirmed acknowledgment and have not asked for any ID check and I assume no credit search... as I have not been made aware of any.

But you already 'bank' with them? so why would they ask for ID/Proof of address etc ? seems silly wasting time,

    - im still waiting for my RBS English account to transfer to a Scottish sort code (ie) 80-80-00 etc

sent of the forum LONG TIME AGO... got a letter back saying they have 'recorded this request' and that's it... nothing changed so far.

Keep checking your online banking, they didn't write to me for almost three weeks after the transfer had taken place. The first I knew was when a new sort code.account number appeared on my list of accounts.

    No.
The transfer to a Scottish branch is done without any ID or credit checks AND you get to keep the account(s) you had, even if they are old and no longer available to new applicants. Any overdraft and special T&Cs you have negotiated are also transferred. The only thing that changes is your account number and sort code (and branch address).

Most people with a long term banking relationship have never undergone ID checks with the bank which the law actually requires. Banks don't actually trust their customers.

Just had a request to transfer account (branch sale) form posted from RBS.
All transfers are currently on hold due to overwelming response requiring more automation to be developed (or complaints from Santander ?).
They also seem to handle the enquiry about switching as a complaint since the letter has a 8-digit 'case reference number'.
