Christ, who would want to bank with Santander? I really hope I'm not included in this.

I've chosen to close my RBS basic current account here in South Wales and move over to NatWest instead. Don't care much for Santander after reading about the numerous problems with the Abbey/A & L switchover and general problems with the bank.

I think that the best advice in that article is where it suggests reading the Best Bank Accounts article.

There is no point in just going with the flow and transferring your account to Santander if that's not the best account for you.

And there's no point in transferring it to a different Natwest/RBS account if that's not the best account for you.

Furthermore, neither bank has a particularly good customer service reputation; there are plenty of other high street banks with far better customer service.

Take this as a good opportunity for Natwest/RBS customers to review their account and see which account would be the best one for them.

But it may well next year when Lloyds/HBOS are forced to sell off Intelligent Finance and Lloyds TSB branches in Scotland.

If Santander were to buy more RBS branches and others, what would you people do; keep money under the bed? An option. Who would they try to buy branches from next. Serious stuff going on.

This news story affects Nat West, too. Nat West is part of the RBS group.

Only NatWest branches in Scotland and RBS branches in England will be transfered

Just phoned the helpline no. 0800 210 0214 and requested the form. This form is in effect a request to transfer our account to a Scottish branch of RBS. Form is to be sent out in the post tomorrow. Young man said transfer would not take immediate effect and that all these requests would be done nearer the completion of the sale. Will look at the correspondence and probably ask that the transfer be done immediately.
