Hi All,
I just wanted to add my thanks for all your previous posts re Apcoa "fines".

I received one despite the fact that I did not drop off or pick up outside a designated area! I came on here to look for advice on wording an appeal letter but after reading the threads, I wont waste my time/effort, or yours. So thanks for saving me some money, time, and stress/worry.:T:T

In the bigger scheme of things, why exactly are these companies in place, if they have no authority to fine people?

And am I right in thinking we can all park in private car parks without paying, without any fear of repercussion?:money:

You will find that nobody on here condones not paying the fee to park. What we object to is the stupid "penalties" demanded by the parking companies if their silly "rules" are broken. By paying the appropriate parking fee then you are retaining the moral high ground.

No there are still remedies available to landowners.

If you continually abuse land then you can be given notice that the vehicle is no longer permitted on the land and as such any entry onto the land is tresspass ...this is far more likely to succeed when the landowner takes you to court.
Ultimately they could get an injunction against you and any vehicle you are using and as such I believe they are allowed to have both you and the vehicle removed by the Police.

This forum in no way encourages or condones individuals who blatantly abuse other peoples land / property.

You should always pay the appropriate fee.

PS The above is all dependent on the good morals of the landowner of course ,if you were to continually abuse my land in such a manner who knows what ill might befall the vehicle ,after all it is parked "at your own risk" ..so if it gets damaged ..oh..dear..what a shame..all for the price of a parking fee. ;-)

I suppose that by not paying the appropriate fee you are technically committing theft.

No as I understand it you can't thieve a service (i.e. parking) only a thing i.e. property.

It may be a crime but I can't get my head round exactly what it may fall under...still I'm sure HO87 will be along to tell us soon.....

Ah so its the landowners who have the "power" then.
I personally would rather pay the parking fee than be looking over my shoulder and receiving letters constantly.

I have no problem paying the cost of parking but to be "fined" when I haven't (knowingly) done anything wrong is hard to accept.

It seems crazy that so many pay these fines unwittingly, and I just wondered if it extended to actually paying the parking fees.

Thanks for clearing that up. Now must educate myself by reading the sticky's. :cool:

I received a letter today 13/8/11, from a debt collection agency called Roxburghe Debt Collectors, from West Byfleet in Surrey, about a parking charge notice that was supposed to have been issued to me, ---as Notice to Registered Keeper--- by APCOA at Luton Airport in June 11.
I never received this notice in the first place, and the Roxburghe letter is asking for £122 to include late payment fees. I tried ringing their office to find out why I had been sent this and the person said that they had no contact or reference information they could give me about this supposed parking notice.
I feel very upset and shaky to have recieved this letter. Has anyone received something similar and what should I do??????
The Roxburghe letter says they will pass the latter to a solicitor, Graham White in 10 days.

Try reading the top sticky threads 'PPC letters' and 'welcome, please read before posting' (Watchdog link on there is a must-see):

Then settle down with a cuppa and read any other thread on that first page, new threads are started and answered here every single day from people in your shoes. Many of them mention the very well-known scumbags you have mentioned (and Graham White letters do NOT come from any solicitor, it's just Roxburghe getting desperate and using their 'special' scary headed notepaper). You will soon see a pattern in the replies, ignore the scammers will be your preferred option. Stop ringing them, do not write, stop taking the bait, it's a con!

Thankyou Coupon-Mad you are a good person, enjoy your day. Mine has definitely improved since reading your advice and the info about Roxburghe. The string gave me info about APCOA, but I had not found anything about what happens next, and I thought I had drawn the short straw.
I didn't even know why I was supposed to get a notice in the first place.
