What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

    Hi Sim and all,

Just wrote a massive message and lost it!! So annoyed, basically just to say hugs to SIM and a bit of my story. I struggled for two years to change/cut down my drinking and always failed only when I accepted I was an alcoholic and could never drink successfully (I was very good at drinking unsuccessfully cause chaos and carnage, getting arrested for drink driving, hurting people, be abusive and violent etc).

When I gave up all notion that I could drink again, things changed, I started to change but I had to do things differently. I couldn't hang around with drinking people or pubs, I had to make sobriety my priority in life, I started to attend AA, I prayed, (not to change gods opinion of me but to change my opinion of god). Before I stopped drinking, I slated AA, thought they were all judging me and talking about me when I slipped, this was so untrue, people were rooting for me to stay sober. I tried lots of meetings to find one I identified with, I struggled with the god thing but made it simple by looking at something bigger then me that caused me to drink and could then stop me drinking. I would even meet you if you are near Manchester.

I am 31 years old and could have had 20 more years of chaos but I have been given a lifeline and hope you can too SIM, I was always changing the way I drank, not drinking everyday, drinking only at weekends, but could never sustain it for long - 3 months at most and I was so so miserable. Today, im happy and at peace with myself I can be a mum, friend and daughter every day without exception.

    Hugs to you sim

so annoyed about loosing that last message!! It was so much better

But this post is superb and several posters on this thread are able to identify with everything that you have written.

  • Hello everyone!

2 more AFD's for me please Shaggy!

Sim - hope you are doing better now and things are starting to improve. Thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way.

I'm ok. Still having a fine old time on nursing placement and am working the weekend too, but don't mind because it is so enjoyable, although hard work.

My divorce proceedings haven't been sent to my ex yet, despite being filed over a week ago, grrrr! But that's the SLOOWWW courts for you -and soon Xmas post will scupper things too, so I hope they get a move on.

Other than that, not much to report really. My ex isn't doing any housework or cleaning and that's p*ssing me off, as I seem to be doing it all. Will have to have a word about that, as I don't want to get too mad and then explode, LOL!

Hugs to all and best wishes for an AF Thursday. :A

Hope you are all doing OK today.

Thanks for the wise words everyone.

I am AF today and tonight with no temptations, still weighing up tomorrows night out with work and what to do drive or train. Plus skin flaring back up with eczema again

Hope everyone is warm and well and I ran my 2nd 10k last night at a super slow pace due to the slippy conditions out there, hoping there's a thaw soon to continue the progress I'm making and get up to 24 miles per week. Super enjoyable and so glad I started running in the summer to build up to this point. Once maintaining at 10k will build up 15K next stage - yipee!

  • Still 4 for me Shaggy - just had a glass of wine with dinner. It was one of those silly little bottles that sell for about £1.70 and give you about a glass and a half (or, in this case, a tumbler :o ). I figured that was the way to go - if I'd had a full size bottle I'd have kept 'topping up' my glass until it was all gone.

Christmas shopping starts tomorrow, can't say I'm looking forward to it, absolutely no idea what to get anyone. My Dad was the only one I found easy to buy for and sadly he passed away in April. :(

    Have a good evening everyone!
  • sorry but erm, what is an AF / AF day please ?
