they may have turned it off in respect of the items you are listing! they are still undercutting everyone else though! try changing your play username maybe... the day they turn the price machine off is the day their business dies, it is their life support

as consumer spending habits and media formats change they will end up with warehouses full of unwanted items which they have utterly de-valued by their own behaviour. it's the modern day equivalent of sitting on millions of betamax and vhs video cassettes, one day in the not too distant future they will be hiring skips at huge expense to dispose of cd's dvd's and games as technology has already moved on. Within 5 to 10 years their current set-up will be dead in the water and I hope for their sakes they will have made a quick buck so they can lock themselves behind fortified gates to protect them from the many enemies they have made while in business

    what have i done wrong!!,
There business is for short term gain, we have had a very business week, but they are still undercutting us (the other day I had to drop the price on nearly 500 items :(

There business relies 100% on turnaround no matter what they pay for goods its all a a lose until they seller, I think its no coincidence since they appeared on the market many many distributors are offering crazy amounts of used games for sale

If Zoverstocks wishes to continue to use this automatic software, it would be preferable for them to run it perhaps once a week (at a random time, not a regular time) so that every week there would be a brief moment when Zoverstocks was sure that they had achieved their aim of being the lowest priced seller on every item that they sell. If several days were allowed to pass between runs, this would mean that for some items Zoverstocks would be temporarily undercut by other sellers, but they would be able to reinstate their 'lowest price' position the next time the software was run. Surely that would be sufficient for them? It would also discourage people from trying to manipulate prices, because if anyone listed a low-priced item with the intention of provoking the software into reducing the Zoverstocks price, that person would find that the software did not respond - unless they happened to list their cheap item shortly before the weekly run. This would surely suit Zoverstocks's purpose nicely, as it would maintain their position as (for most of the time) the cheapest seller on Amazon whilst minimising the number of buyers who unfairly manipulate their prices.

There is a vast difference in price for the same item in the various alternative listings by Zoverstocks. I have come across items listed by Zoverstocks at 9.99 on amazon.co.uk which are listed at less than a euro on amazon.de and sometimes only a few cents on amazon.com (and there are other Amazon sites to consider, such as the ones in France and Canada). In many instances the item is rare enough that it is certain to be exactly the same copy being listed on multiple sites. It is often cheaper to buy from Zoverstocks's foreign online shops (paying additional postage) than to buy the same item from Zoverstocks's amazon.co.uk shop. Their prices are set by erratic software with a total disregard of the condition of the items.

yes some, maybe all, of their items will go down in price, but not up above a certain level which they obviously set. items will track other sellers prices to that penny less price point but for example when there's a daft listing selling a dvd for £100 zoverstocks won't go to £99.99

  • James from Zoverstocks, are you reading this?
There will be some people who have manipulated prices by taking advantage of automatic software without realising that they're doing anything illegal, and these people might be genuinely concerned to find out via your comments that what they've done is fraudulent. Some of these people might never before in their whole lives have been involved with anything remotely fraudulent, and they might wish to put things right by paying any underpaid amount (perhaps anonymously, to avoid embarrassment). James, what's your policy on this? Any advice?

I have read all the comments on this thread and I'm truly baffled by what this thread is actually about.

We sell on Playtrade and Amazon and use the evil "price checker" software that you all hate so much. That said, so do half of the sellers on both Amazon and Playtrade. They have no problem with sellers using it, so much so that they actually supply API processes so we can do it!!!!

I have no idea who that "chance10000" bloke is or what his beef is but clearly he has a chip on his shoulder.

And what is it with these digs at zoverstocks? We are up there with the big boys on these marketplaces, certainly on Amazon and to be honest although I have heard of them in passing, there are certainly much bigger sellers out there.

The software used is freely available to anyone who wishes to use it. There are numerous options out there, not just the one as some people are making out. Clearly people selling the odd second hand CD will never compete with a business seller so why even consider it? As someone else said, list the item at the amount you want for it as inevitably unless you use pricing software yourselves then you will never win unfortunately.

Sellers like that will sell at a loss quite often, even Amazon themselves will no doubt sell off stock at a loss as it is water off a ducks back and dead stock needs to go pure and simple.

I genuinely cannot understand what all the ramblings are about. Sure, I see that as private sellers you want to make a few quid on the side but Amazon or Playtrade are really not the places to do this. eBay is a guaranteed winner for the odd item.
