I cant imagine the horror of this - but why didnt the poor baby cry at all?0

I know it was my fault that this happened, if I could turn back time I would, I would do anything to bring Benji back, but I can't. I do believe it is an easy mistake to make however.
I know its an easy mistake. My Charlie (the most mischief searching kitten ever) got in our tumble dryer, despite me checking it as I was loading (I can only assume he slipped in under a sheet).
He survived, thank god.
Once is an accident, twice is careless.
I know that would never happen to me again. As I would be so paranoid if I ever had a kitten again.0 -
oh Sam, i'm not going to 'beat you up' about this,
i know how you feel, but dont get a kitty yet , please , give yourselves time to grieve,
and dont take to heart nasty comments, i have just been admonished on another thread and called a 'crazy cat lady' lol. i mean just cos i have 5 cats its considered a 'pride'
whats done is done, it was a terrible accident, but take time to grieve for the kitty who has died,0 -

The OP made a terrible, terrible mistake. These things do happen. Would you be speaking this way to a mother whose child had pulled a hot drink from a table and scolded themselves? Would you verbally stamp on a busy father who's toddler caught the handles of a cooking pan and burned themselves? What about the handful of babies and toddlers who die each year through drowning in just a few inches of water? That innocent-looking puddle in the back garden... mum turns her back for a second... the baby drowns. Would you treat them this way?
Accidents Happen!
I cannot believe how judgemental and downright nasty some people can be. Yes, I know I'll get slated for this post and quite frankly I don't give a !!!!!!. There doesn't seem to be that much support for the OP so either people are too scared to speak up or I'm living in a world gone mad. Either way, I bloody well hope that none of you ever find yourselves in the position of having made a terrible mistake and going through the trauma this family has suffered because of it. If you need help and support, for God's sake don't come to this forum for it.
Sam made a mistake. She didn't knowingly put her kitten into the washing machine. It was an accident. The way you are treating her is disgusting.
She knows that she is responsible for what happened. She knows she will feel the guilt about what happened forever. What more do you want from her? To suggest that she should be prosecuted and banned from keeping pets, after a tragic accident, is just ridiculous. This forum can be a very nasty place sometimes.
I don't live in a perfect world nor am I perfect but I have had over 20 cats in the past and managed never to kill one. Surely anyone with a cat knows how inquisitive they are. The OP already had one go in the tumble dryer for god's sake!!
The washing machine and tumble dryer door should be kept closed until they are to be used - it's not brain surgery.
In my opinion this was not an accident. I would have thought having another cat go in the tumble dryer would have made the OP extra vigilant. The very fact that 4 days later she is talking about getting another kitten is disgusting.
Oh and by the way, if people have ponds in their gardens and have young children then those children should NEVER EVER be in the garden unsupervised and yes, if one did drown, I would blame the parentsThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

I don't believe I ever mentioned the word 'pond', but anyway. I've said my piece, as have you. I'm not about to get into a slanging match with anyone."Your life is what your thoughts make it"
"If you can't bite, don't show your teeth!"
R.i.P our beautiful girl Suki. We'll love and miss you forever

So sorry for loosing your little kitten,i agree tho that a period of time in between would be good for you all, most people on here are nice and give good sound advice but on every topic you get the silly f*****s who think by laying into people it makes them feel better & as for the person who had over 20 cats what happened to them?where they fronlined,wormed,neutered/castrated or insured how do you measure neglect, having pets uninsured to me is a huge neglect unless you have oodles of money
i have 2cats and i love them both to pieces but i could not compare loosing them to my children.very sad tho it is we can all look back and say what if but we are human after all and humans make mistakes.0 -
I'm so sorry to read what happened. Poor little Benji. Like other posters have said you need time to come to terms with what happened and grieve before getting another kitty.
While I think there was some carelessness on your part which led to the accident you ovbiously feel terrible about it and I'm sure you have learn how careful you have to be with everything. When my 2 were kittens my partner wouldn't let them in the bathroom unattended incase they fell into the toilet and drowned, seemed very unlikely to me that would happen but you can't be too careful. I constantly worry about anything happening to my kitties.
My dad once opened the fridge door to find a kitten sat in the door shelf looking up at him with a "can I help you?" sort of expression, was funny how he was sat so casually and comfortably in a cold fridge but it did teach my how quickly and easily a cat can sneak somewhere unnoticed. The kitten was very happy sat there at the time but that probably wouldn't have been the case if no one had gone in the fridge until the next day.0 -
Look, give her a bit of space. Yes, it's terrible it happened twice, and yes, she needs to be vigilant.
I've had dogs with cut paws from glass, a dog who had his paw run over by a car, same dog almost electrocuted himself when we installed CCTV. I have had kittens and pups try and climb into machines- with my mum having 5 of us, it's wasn't always the first thing on your mind.
I've raised dogs, cats and all manner of animals. I don't think I'm a bad pet owner at all. My dogs were raised as gun dogs, by dint, had to be raised harsher than pets. That doesn't make me a bad owner either- I've had extremely loyal and loving animals.
It was a horrific accident, if shocking as it's happened twice.
She came on upset, and is obviously so, but some comments are a tad unfair. I know her first post didn't read all that well- neither do mine when I'm upset.
I can't count the number of times I've had to rescue a pet (here's a new one, once rescued a Red Setter that climbed a tree- makes a change from the cat!), nor could I count the number of times it could have been much worse.0 -

:rotfl::rotfl:thats exactly what my kitten would do!
OP your children especially need time before you bring another kitten into the home - as has been said before, they need to know that a pet isn't a toy, it can't be replaced just like that if it dies/goes missing etc. Enjoy the cat you have for a while yet before you get another kitten.0 -
It was an accident imo. Ive never met anyone who knows exactly where their pet is 24 hours a day, especially cats.
I dont think you deserve all the comments that have been made against you personally. It was a tragic mistake, and im sure you have learnt your lesson from it.
Its up to you how long to wait for another cat. Whether it be 4 days or 4 months. I didn't realise that there was specific time you were required to wait before trying to move on. I always thought it was an individual choice. Hey ho, you live and learn
I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:0
