Is it too soon?

Hello

We had a kitten, Benji, who got into the washer without anyone knowing and died. :( All of our family were extremely distraught about it, and me and the kids want to get another kitten. It wasn't anyone's fault what happened, I thought he was playing outside and that's why I didn't check the washer. We have another cat who is 1 and she got into the tumble dryer once so I always was cautious with this kitten. This happened on Saturday. At first I didn't want to get another kitten, but my partner and friends have convinced me that it wasn't my fault what happened. Now I'd like to get another one and so would the kids, but my partner thinks it might be too soon. I think it would help us to get over what happened. I'm not trying to replace Benji or anything. What do you think?

Thanks very much

Sam

:eek::eek: Please don't tell me it went through a wash?

How old was the poor little thing? You need to keep the doors on washers closed AND check them!!!

No,don't get another kitten.Especially now!It was Saturday fgs!!!

I am shocked you are even considering it and asking.

It was an animal not a toy.You don't replace it.You certainly don't teach kids that you replace something that's died like that either.

    Bad bad bad idea!!!

And tbh,if you aren't prepared to take note of certain things don't ever get another one!

Your cat has been in the tumble drier and the kitten died in the washing machine.....DOES THAT NOT TELL YOU SOMETHING!

Whatever, I've come across you before on here and you never have a nice word to say about anyone. Yes it went through the washer, don't you think we are all heartbroken about it and haven't stopped crying? It's not something we ever thought would happen is it? I am considering getting another one as I think it would be better for all of us. Yes Ruby went into the tumble dryer as a kitten, but thank God I noticed that she was in there before turning it on. I hope to God you are never in the situation we were in on Saturday, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Try explaining to a 7 and 4 year old what happened and why Mummy is screaming. It is awful. I thought getting another kitten would bring some happiness back into our lives, don't you think I'd double and triple check in future to prevent this horrible thing ever happening again.

I feel really sorry for you all. It was obviously an accident and you must all be quite distraught. I dread to think how hard it was to explain it to your children.
Personally I would give it a little more time before you decide to get another as you are still upset about what happened.
I wish you luck in whatever you decide.

You honestly think that replacing a kitten that just died (in the bloody washing machine) is a good idea?

Aside from other things, what does that teach kids?

It's a pet-a part of the family. You don't go out and replace them like that, especially when still greiving.Especially when there are kids.

Seriously, don't go and get another kitten now.Please.

Try explaining it to me perhaps.

    Keep washer shut.
    Open and check inside.
Put washing in one item at time.
    Shut door.
Check for kitten (outside of washer).
    Then turn washer on.

Please don't get another pet until you are capable of following the sequence above. It's not fair on the animals let alone the children.

Sheesh its scary that there is no test before having children.

Thanks natlol, that was the kind of advice I was looking for. Nice to know not everyone judges people just like that, it could happen to anyone. I know it was preventable, but when you've just seen your kitten playing outside a minute before, you don't expect him to have just got into the washing machine do you? I am the last person that would ever deliberately harm an animal, people that do that sort of thing are as bad as pedos in my eyes.

It was an accident, you didnt mean for it to happen, but it was still your fault!
I think you need to take the responsibility for this sad happening before you should get another kitten.
I am sure it was avery traumatic experience for all involved. I think you all need to let the dust settle a little and maybe consider getting another kitten in a month or so.

Ok, I will try explaining it to you. I am not 100% sure how it happened. He may have been in the quilt that I put into the washer, or he may have been inside it. I don't know. But I don't appreciate how people are making out that I am incapable of looking after pets just because of this one accident. Would you be the same if God forbid, one of my children ran out into the road or something? And how does this one accident have any bearing on how capable I am of looking after my children?

I know it was my fault that this happened, if I could turn back time I would, I would do anything to bring Benji back, but I can't. I do believe it is an easy mistake to make however.

I know kittens can get into all sorts of places that you don't necessarily expect to find them but that's one of the biggest things that you need to be aware of when you have one.

I would have thought that by finding your older cat in the tumble dryer, you would have been extremely careful with both cats when it came to washers or dryers.

I only know that if it were me I'd be feeling so wretched that the thought of having another kitten would be the last thing on my mind right now and that no one would be able to convince me that it wasn't my fault.

But hey, that's just my take on it. Accidents happen.
