I use it in gingerbread, this makes the soft styleGingerbread
1lb2oz plain flour
1tsp baking powder
1tspbicarb
1tsp ground ginger
1tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
5oz butter
6oz soft light brown sugar
3 tbsp black treacle
2 tbsp golden syrup
1 egg
Sift all dry ingredients and melt butter sugar and treacle and syrup together. Mix all together and roll out while dough is still warm, cut out shapes and place on a lightly greased baking tray. Bake for 10 mins at 180. Wait until completely cool then ice if wanted, or dust with icing sugar.0 -
Gingerbread is my recommendation too;) But don't worry about using it up, it won't go off in a hurry -if at all, it'll still be fine for a few year's worth of Christmas cakes.0

My gran used to make treacle bread for special occasions. I googled and found this recipe
http://www.recipes4us.co.uk/Cakes%20and%20Baked%20Fayre/treacle_soda_bread__veg___ht__cd.htm
The normal trick with soda breads generally is to wrap them in a damp tea towel when you take them out of the oven to stop the crust going too solid...
How do you end up with loads of treacle by the way??0 -
I remember making treacle toffee with it as Christmas gifts, but it was years ago. I'm sure I got the recipe off a tin on condensed milk, I don't remember the recipe, but I do remember the taste. It was delish..... I think it was probably nestle condensed milk, must see if I can find the recipe online.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0
