I am on a mission to use up and not spend and at the back of a cupboard have discovered 2 tins of black treacle, well out of date,

It reminded me that I used to make treacle toffee and toffee apples which got me to thinking that I dont hear of people making this now.

Does anyone, or is this just considered unhealthy now.

I still make them once a year on bonfire night for the kids, my poor teeth couldn't cope with them though!

We still make toffee, and fudge, and tablet, and peppermint creams, and coconut ice (yuck, but the kids seem to love it) and toffee apples etc. etc. But there are lots of other things you can make with black treacle, and TBH the stuff keeps for EVER!

I still make treacle toffee but probably not every year these days. As I'm getting older, bonfire night manages to creep up on me and take me by surprise more and more often!

I've made treacle toffee and I'm in my 20s, so some of us do these days! I don't make it any more as I don't like eating hard toffees any more, but I still have black treacle in the cupboard, it gets used to make ginger cake.

I think you could also use black treacle to make a liquorice glaze for salmon. Hmm, might try that some day!
