Nigella ginger bread is good too, with the lemon icing.0

It doesn't use up a lot of treacle, but you can make your own baked beans by soaking any appropriate white bean eg haricot, then slow cooking them with treacle, spices and tomato in some form.
I know I have a recipe somewhere called Boston Baked Beans, which I'll try to find.0 -

It's probably cheaper to buy the tins, but they're wonderfully different if you cook them yourself.

Edited to add this Real Man's version:
Hart Stilwell's Frontier Baked Beans
2 pounds cooked navy beans or other white beans
1 1/2 cups tomato juice
1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
3/4 cup dark brown sugar (or less)
3/4 cup strong black coffee
1/2 medium red onion, chopped
1/2 cup catsup
1/2 cup bourbon
4 slices slab bacon, chopped
1 carrot, finely grated
2 Tablespoons unsulphured dark molasses
2 Tablespoons dry mustard
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl, then pour it into a baking dish. Bake the beans, uncovered, about 1 1/2 hours or until they have thickened and cooked down, with a "skin" just beginning to form on the top of the beans.
These beans reheat well and will keep in the refrigerator for several days.0 -
I love treacle on thickly sliced crusty bread spread thickly with butter and then spread with loads of treacle. It takes me back to when I was little as it was my Mum's favourite!Jane

Hi, RS! When you refer to treacle here, do you mean the thick, black stuff? Or are you meaning what I'd call Golden Syrup? Treacle is lovely, but has a bitterish taste. You must be brave to have loads of it on bread!
Edit - Don't know what's happened there - put in pics of2 tins, and now just have web addresses?

Hi Penny - no, I mean the real black stuff!!! I love it! My Mum used to say it was full of iron, but that may be not right! On crusty bread with loads of cold thick butter it is yummy, but then I like thick marmite on toast too....Jane

I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions as to what I can do/make with black treacle. I bought a tin to glaze my ham as per Nigella's advice but will have loads left over.
I read on the tin it's good for baking things such as gingerbread but I make that anyway....wondered if any of you clever people could tell me things that are a little different and perhaps things where only black treacle would do.....
Thanks in advanceIf Life Deals You a Lemon - Make Lemonade!! :j0 -
Has anyone got any good recipes using black treacle? Have two tins in my cupboard from making christmas cake. Can I use it instead of golden syrup? Any suggestions?!
