You wouldnt be able to draw money afterwards as the account would be frozen. How long before the account is unfrozen and do they have control over it?
I was asked for two years of statements, but did not have them all - OR told me not to worry - she would get any missing statements.
Theoretically, any frozen bank accounts would be 'un-frozen' by OR on your discharge. The question is, would the Banks allow you to use them? I think probably not, but if you open a basic bank account, when you are made br, then you should be allowed to 'upgrade' soon after discharge.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

You were very lucky to be allowed to keep your cheque book!
Hi Sandra,
I was advised to wait until after I was declared br before opening a bank account.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

I had to open a basic bank account because I was doing an IVA - the br was secondary to that.
Apparently my account will not be frozen since I have only State Benefits as income and it is paid into that account. The OR doesn't freeze on that basis.0 -

I think it depends on your OR... As said, Mine wasnt frozen at all.. Simply asked if there was an overdraft, a letter was then sent to say I could keep on using it, the bank seem fine with that...0 -

My OR advised me to open a basic account as soon as I started earning. She told me that I must not use either of my other accounts, but since they were both o/d I hadn't been using them anyway, and I'm not currently receiving any income so don't 'need' a bank account yet.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. Well, I have my own worries and fears about this br thing too. My court date is 20/11.
To date I have told no-one about my br. Not one soul - apart from on here.
The stress is starting to kick in. I am really worried now that come the 20/11 I will be too frightened to go and walk through the door of the County Court and bottle out.0 -

I hope that our experiences will convince you not to worry, Sandra:grouphug:
I was absolutely scared stiff because I had to go to the High Court in London - the TV cameras didn't help either. I know they were not there for me, but it seemed uncanny that they appeared to be focusing directly on me as I approached those wrought iron gates. I could hardly get my words out as I asked for directions.
Fifteen minutes later I could have skipped out of those gates and I even managed a cheeky wave to the TV camera as I left.
Stick around Sandra - we'll help you through it just as you're already helping others face up to their problems:beer:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

I think it is just because the date is getting closer!
Also, if the Income Support folks don't get their finger out by next Friday and give me it, I will have to pay the whole of the court fee. I am only entitled to £25 per week IS, but without it, I pay the full fee - with it, I am still £150 in pocket. Crazy. I only have £59.90 per week to start with, and yet on that I am supposed to be better off than WITH IS. The SS system in this country is manic.
I think I should get a job in the Civil Service and sort them out !0 -

From you advice on here hun, you are feisty and strong enough to cope.. Im a bif puff and I coped. You will be fine. It is really daunting, but no one judges you and you come out a whole lot a debt lighter.
I actually thought that this board really helped. There is hell of a lort of support on here, and some people say the nicest things to you, some people who you have never met. They say the nicest things, It makes you cry again. Sick of fuilling up. But once its over, Youll feel better .
