Well done alidadas - I bet you feel good now.
Don't forget to tell us how it went.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Ok, son is fed, Mother-in-law has gone home, I have a spare 5 minutes whilst son is napping so thought I'd tell you all about my morning!
Well last night I decided that I would drive to the courts rather than take public transport. Ofcourse we wake up this morning to horrendous rain and winds and my H (bless his heart) tells me he doesn't want me to drive as its dangerous - especially with me not being 100% sure of the way and being nervous as hell!
So I get dropped off a Gosport ferry station, grab the ferry over to Portsmouth and jump in a taxi to the courts. I arrive just over an hour early so grab a cup of tea and sit in the entrance waiting.
My appointment was at half 9, well at 9 the admin clerk comes and gets me, she goes through the paperwork, I sign, I swear, jobs a goodun. She was sooooo nice to me and really friendly. She went off to create a file etc and then tells me we'll have to wait til about 10 to see a judge so I sit, reading my book for about half an hour.
She comes and gets me just before 10 and takes me upstairs to the court rooms, its getting very busy by now and she warns me that we dont have a set time in court, we just fit in around whatever else is on. Luckily, there is a judge who free immediately so we go straight through.
I didn't really like the judge, he wasn't particularly friendly, very matter of fact and to be honest I felt a bit intimidated - almost like he was looking down his nose at me! Oh well, I was only in there for 2 minutes, he flicked through the papers, asked me to confirm a few things and then at 5 past 10 declared me bankrupt!!!
So off me and my new friend the clerk go, she does whatever else she needs to do and then calls the OR. I speak to them, again confirm a few things, make sure they have my numbers and thats it! I'm out!!!!!!!!!
I feel hugely relieved!!! I want to tell everyone that I'm out of debt, but I cant as noone I know in real life knows that I've done this (apart from my husband) so will just have to start adding to conversations how I'm ploughing loads of money into my debts and they're coming down really fast! lol
Thank you everyone for your support on here and for answering my silly questions (I ended up going in jeans btw lol).
I'm now taking control of all of our finances, and we're going to start putting any spare cash into my husbands debts which are minimal and wont take any time at all to pay off - I just want us both to be totally debt free now!!!!!!!
My husband is in the process of setting up a savings account and he gets a nice big payrise in the new year which we're going to save all of it so that in the future we dont have to worry if somethings breaks and we need new - not getting into that trap again!!!!!LBM: 25th November 2010 - total debt: 10762.38
Littlewoods: 2450.12, Very: 3273.56, Loan: 2256.87, Car: £1000.00, argos card: £135.00, Overdraft: £1000.00,
Grand total: £10115.55
Paid off so far:646.83 - December 20100 -

Well done:beer:
Has anyone heard anything about government plans to change legislation to make it harder to become br in the new year? The clerk in court commented on how she has seen more br petitions in tgis year already than she saw in 2003-5:eek:0 -

Nope, haven't heard anything. I think that the way it will go first is that banks will increase some charges to try and recoup their losses. They will simply have to tighten up their lending criteria or the economy is heading for meltdown. The government only loosened the rules last year and it typically takes a couple of years for them to go from idea to action.
On a different note...
I have a quickie for anyone who can answer my question: How long does the whole BR process take from handing your forms in to being declared BR? I'm just deciding whether to start now or wait until Xmas.
Many thanks
And congrats alidadas - big drink for you!0
