can anyone advise me how to stop my accountant receiving correspondance on my behalf from the inland revenue, basically stop him being my accountant? i signed a form around 2 years ago to inland revenue to send correspondance to them. but i want to totally stop dealing with them due to what i explained early.
my main accountant seems like a nice chap, it's actually an assistant that started work there who is the problem. however if i dont need an accountant, even better.
Sandra, do you do your account yourself? does this mean im wasting money on a accountant? and can do my own records? because basically i do most of the records and it seems he just checks them over and charges me, in my mind quite abit for check my addition and subtraction!
Ironically (considering my current situation!) I'm an accountant too!
millionaire, provided you are confident enough with your own bookkeeping, it couldn't be simpler - just record all your income and expenditure (pm me privately if you'd like further info on what you can claim) and come the end of your financial year, complete the online tax return using those figures, it does all the calcs for you, or as Sandra suggested, get an appointment at your local tax office (but be organised and do it well in advance, as you can appreciate, they get VERY busy).
also, make a note now of the kinds of things your accountant reminds you about or does for you in the year eg your NI contributions, it is essential if you're going it alone to make sure you keep up with these.
now, soon as you're ready, write to the IR, let them know the change of correspondence address and also write to/speak with your accountant to let them know that you no longer require their services and would like a copy of their files on your business and for them to forward any correspondence to you.

Hi again
Right, I have a bit of a silly question! What did you wear to court?
I'm heavily pregnant and dont really have any smart maternity clothes - I'm also going to have to wear trainers as these are the only flat shoes I have (I'm far to big and wobbly to be wearing heals now). I'm a bit worried that I'm going to come across as scruffy and they wont think I'm taking it seriously??!!LBM: 25th November 2010 - total debt: 10762.38

If you know the way people dress in pompey :rotfl: I shouldn't worry to much - so long as you're clean, ironed and hair brushed, thats fine. LOL listen to me, this time last week I had no idea either and had the same worries.
I wore jeans a jumper and a smart jacket - I had to wear trainers too as they are the only things I can wear at the moment... but I picked my newest looking ones (and they were black luckily).
You'll be fine, and you won't come across scruffy, I'm sure.
If all the 'court rooms' are the same as the one I was in, its more like entering an office than anything, you sit one side of the desk, the judge the other.BCSC # 29 - BRD 29/11/06ED 31/08/07 phew!

:j Hi to everyone out there who are either facing Bankruptcy, going through it or have come out the other side.
I just wanted to say that you are not alone, there are many people out there who have either been through what you are going through or are about to go through, and believe me when I say - they know how you feel! :heartpuls:
Both myself and my husband were made bankrupt on 11th November 2003 and are now discharged as of 1st April 2005 because of the new 1 year law. we had already sold our house, but this did not clear all our debts and we were living in temporary accommodation for nearly 3 years before we got the house we are now in. We have been through hell and back, but have come out the other side stronger than ever, and I just want to say that there is a brighter side and you can get over it.
This is a really great thread and although I have not read every page (well, there are 70 of them), I will definitely be looking through.
We were just about to get a loan to start to build up our credit rating again, but although we were accepted (we are council tenants) the APR was 46%   Talk about kick you when you're down! Obviously we declined. So if anyone knows a good way to increase your credit rating without paying through the nose, just so that we can get a decent bank account, let us know as it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
