Life after bankruptcy?

When on JSA you can work up to 15 hours a week, I believe but needs double checking. Please do it - it will give you the space to recover and re-build. Ani, we hear (on this forum) come from different places and different walks of life. One thing we share is that we are in financial trouble - different degree but the kind is the same. We are amongst the very few people who really understand - but also we generally 'keep on' although may sometimes not 'keep up'.
You can give up on the forum if you really believe it is not helping you anymore. But please do not give up on life and the joy that simple things can bring. As to the Universe, it is generous when we meet it half way - this is the hard bit.
Thinking of you.

Ah, yes! If I pay attention to all people who have made jokes with my spelling (can't spell for toffee, me) I'll never write a word. My reaction to this one is that when people discuss my spelling and grammar the content is fine. I also learn - every remark tells me something I can change, something I can make better.
You write well and I suspect you need to write. So keep going and don't pay much heed to the rest.

I missed the comments by whoever it was, but if they haven't taken the trouble to know you, hurtful though their comments are, they aren't worth anything because they aren't based on YOU. I'm very sorry they've made you feel this way, though, because that, even more than the constant trudge of lack of work and money and tiredness, is what's doing the damage.
And no joking? Well, I'll try... for today anyway. It may not last.
Maybe i should just say to myself, its only one person, they don't know me as a person, and i should just laugh it off. But its not easy to do do, when you are in my shoes.
Easy enough to say, but how does one do it?Saddleworth moor, not a place i would frequent, from choice. Too eerie. Saddleworth to me, only says one thing, until kb is put to rest.
Yes, I always think of those kids every time we go over that way.The moor was covered in cloud the other day, hence the fog, which seemed odd for the time of year. Other than that we got rain and more rain.
I have'nt double checked on the jsa, but i'm assuming its for people who don't work at all, and i'm deperately trying to stay in the ranks of the working.
That might be worth checking up on - can you sign on for weeks when you aren't working? After all, you are actively looking for work. I saw something on one of the threads about someone considering this.I'm going to try and experince some ' non ' emotions today, or maybe even some positive emotions. Now i've gone back to being cryptical? I hope you all have a peaceful day xx
No, that's not cryptical. I won't do my usual recommending the funniest threads (because you will have heard all that before) but I hope you can find something that works for you. Giving yourself a break is important. None of us is meant to function under constant stress, and even historic stress can come back to bite us if there's something around that triggers it - so perhaps the rain will hold off and you can get outside? Or maybe the neighbour who brings G&T will miraculously turn up at some point? (You could send them round here... oops, I said I wouldn't joke, didn't I? Behave, Miggy. Even if they turn up you are NOT allowed a G&T at 10 in the morning).
Anyway Ani... look after yourself. I hope the sun comes out but isn't too hot, and I will update my diary but not recommend it for people who like to sleep in safe buildings.Miggy

Firewalker, you are so wise!
You just have the ability to put things into words... and I'm glad you had the info on JSA, I don't know much about it but that sounds potentially very helpful.

I'm not sure about that kerri. I question the point of even keeping a diary anymore. I doubt it is helping anyone else, and i question whether it is now helping me. It undoubtably was, in the beginning, when all those ' things ' came pouring out. The ' things ' i had no one to speak to, about. Now, its just like a broken record. I'm broken, its broken, everything is broken.
Don't do yourself a dis-service Ani, you'd be surprised how we help/influence people in ways we don't realise - a morning smile at someone walking down the street might seem an innocuous gesture to the person giving it, but to the person receiving it, it could be the only smile they get from someone that day. Or, as the BT ad used to say 'it's good to talk' (but only if/when you want to) xFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

You were all right when you said a public diary is'nt the place for this.
I've barely slept and i've woken up feeling rock bottom again.
I received my car insurance quote yesterday, and i know only too well how it is, to receive a letter you don't want to open. So i didn't open it. But i have, just. Its pretty much as i expected, and realistically, no longer affordable, to me. Its crunch time, make or break. How can i afford to pay what some insurance companies are saying is the value of the car? What is the point? The only point is, its a legal requirement. You can understand why people drive around without car insurance. My morals, wouldn't allow me to do so. When i mention classic car insurance to companies, they haven't a clue what i'm talking about. My only course of action, now, is to ring some true classic car insurers and see where i stand, given the ani is worth next to nowt, in real terms, or accept the most basic insurance quote and accept that if ani is damaged, thats it, written off. Well, 3 insurance assessors had a b*y good go. Why did i bother? My gut feeling is, if i can find some classic car insurance, its going to come at a price, and its going to be even more expensive.
I'm sooooo tempted to get rid now, ( if possible ), because selling would just about clear my debts, take away the biggest drain on my income, but leave me jobless. On the other hand, i've only worked a handful of days, this last month. and i'm already in * street.
On the positive side i've received my wtc
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Well thats what i think of that one, and thats for someone who only has an income of £100 a week. What happened to the £25k pa, you are supposed to receive?
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I'm meeting with the charity today, but i doubt even they will get me out of * street, as they have a limited budget and others to consider. I wish they could.
Its surprising how writing this has taken the tears away for a few moments. Oh no, it hasn'tDebt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Hope all goes well with the charity meeting.
If you do sell the car and therefore can't work would you sign on for JSA? At least it's some money and you'd be able to get help with rent/council tax.
I can only imagine how hard things are and wish I could fix it for you. We are thinking of you xxxx0 -
... the criticisms i received on the forum from someone i don't even know or have never spoken to whose diary i don't even read let alone post, ... What i thought was a bit of a joke, a laugh, has been taken out of context by someone it had nothing to do with, in the first place.
I think, ani, that if we are referring to the same posts, you will find that you were cricising the state of the education system and you wondered how some students managed to get into university these days since some of them can barely read, write or spell. Someone suggested, gently, that one should look at one’s own punctuation and spelling before casting aspersions at other people’s. You challenged her, saying that you couldn’t see any in your own post, and she pointed them out to you – as requested. This was all part of a bigger debate and was not merely someone having a go at you.
But maybe I have assumed the wrong posts?
I hope you come up with a solution to insuring your car, since it is essential to your work."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Once again it seems I may have missed the relevant discussion - however if there's been that sort of comment on your own thread, it must have been a while back, or I haven't read thoroughly enough (apologies if that's the case). This is your diary and it's up to you what goes in it - and that includes how you write.
I know I for one am very keen on certain spellings and grammatical points, but was reading an article recently which made me realise I probably do all sorts of annoying things to which I'm oblivious. In the end, if the meaning is communicated, the end has been acheived (ei? ie? oh bother...)
Heretobefore and notwithstanding... have one of these :coffee: and we'll talk about car and do some fancy dam'ing of insurers. It just seems a completely ridiculous quote, which makes me think they don't want your business, and where there's a gap in the insurance market you would think someone would come in to fill it? So do try the classic car people.
Basic insurance: would help in that it would keep you on the road and give you access to work. If the car were written off (not sure what the likelihhod of this is? In 22 years we've had one car written off but are we typical?) you would then be in the same position as if you had sold. On the other hand it would still have bought you time. If that were to happen, what would hindsight tell you? I could be that it was a good choice because it gave you some income. It could be that the breathing space should have been used to keep a look out for another source of income? I don't know.
I don't need an answer to this but ask yourself whether your work is the sort of thing you could pick up again if for some reason you had to have a break from it? Well, actually you did have a break from it and got back in - in fact you got so far back in that you were still getting work when other people in the same line weren't - so hold on to that. If you went into another job for a while, to cover costs, that wouldn't necessarily be the end of what you usually do. When the recession turns the corner - as they do - people with your skills and experience are going to be needed.
The pros and cons of selling the car (I know you will know these like the back of your hand but bear with me because I think aloud):
For
You get the money to pay off debts
Against
Not a long-term solution
No job
For
No more worries about meeting insurance costs etc.
Against
No job...
You would miss that car
Isn't going to do your feelings any good
For
It would stop the cycle - which is brutal but such a lot of your agony has been down to constant tension. If the cycle stopped, you wouldn't have to choose between your existing work which doesn't pay enough and going for another job/benefits (which also might not pay enough). You would be free to apply for anything you thought you could do without having to consider what would happen if your usual work came up.
Against
The above is an 'against' as well. It sounds final. Would a different job pay enough? What could you get in JSA?
That's as far as I can get at the moment and probably doesn't really cover anything. It's a choice of the devil you know and the devil you don't, isn't it?
WTC - good for a laugh, then, if nothing else?!
How have things gone with the charity? Did they have anything useful to add?
Sorry this is so long, wish I could be more use. Hugs regardless.Miggy

Wordsmith, I think there was more than one post making comments. Ani was trying to have a laugh and their comments were tongue in cheek. But people came along making comments and taking things the wrong way.
Anyway, as ani says they are feeling very emotional at the moment, understandably and maybe it could have been taken another way/read another way, but that is not how ani read it and felt about it.
Ani, you are more than between a rock and a hard place. I don't know, the ocean maybe? drowning, not waving? anyone remember that poem?
Tax credits! well, what can I say, a few years ago they were worth it, until they started making overpayments and clawing them back. this year they have been so strict and cut down on so much.
I know a lot of people don't touch tax credits anymore because of the problems with them.
all I can say is 5p is better than nowt.
And the lovely government suggest a single person can live on £12k a year easily. or it might be £15K, can't find the original article that quotes this.
But did find an article suggesting the original service set up for benefits means we should be entitled to approx £70 a week depending on our circumstances. But the Govt have their own method for working out how much someone is entitled to.0
