Life after bankruptcy?

I asked them precisely this. Apparently the previous occupant only lived here a year, ish, so they were estimates, too.

do you give them monthly readings? can you online if you don't already?
I do with mine, even though they don't bill monthly, they bill quarterly, but I pay direct debit monthly. it does help to remove the ouch factor. And I called today and said I was struggling with payments, as they had upped it, due to large usage over winter. DH's fault. he insists on house being hot and he wasn't working. I have been reading the old style thread and they all suggest fleeces behind curtains and shortening so don't cover radidators. problem is rented house, landlord's curtains, they are all long and cover radiators! I don't understand why! his bills must have been extraordinarily high! but we can tuck up one set over radiator but not other. so I am just going to keep that rad on very low.
but will try to do tacking on our bedroom curtains as our room is always cold in winter.

I think i've just found the solution to the problem.
I've just had the oven on, and used 2 units @ 14. 15p
Therefore i've spent 28.30p on electricity, today.
The only problem is, the reading was on the wrong meter, the night meter tariff, which means it cost me just shy of 10p.
I use all my electricity at night, heating, washing machine etc, when its supposed to be on the cheaper tariff. Oh dear.......................
This means i will have to reverse the way i live.
I'm just having a sub tropical storm

Can you challenge their bill on the basis that the meters must be wrongly wired? Whose responsibility are meters, anyway?
And even so - £2,000?!Miggy

£2k is totally ludicrious, we don't even use that for 2 people in a 3 bed house - in fact, our combined gas and elec is...errr....was until £1k per year and I must admit our windows aren't the best insulated (internal shutters, no curtains and if it was our place I'd replace the double glazing). Ani...you sure you aren't growing plants? I hear indoor tomatoes need a lot of heat :rotfl:
Seriously though, sorry to hear about the car ins, and wtc, what a sh!tty old state of affairs. I'm at a total loss of anything potentially useful to suggest but it's shocking you can end up in this situation. xx

You will use electricity for computer too?
I think it's the laptop so perhaps it's not been on charge today. However, it sounds as though Ani's done the MS thing and put all electricity use possible onto night time, and somehow that's been switched with the day meter (is this right Ani?) so the good work has turned upside down.
I suppose if the company has readings for both meters and it can be proved this is what's happening, the fair thing is for them just to switch readings. That would make the tariff much more realistic. Is there an ombudsman for these things, I wonder?Miggy

Ani has a computer, not a laptop.
but I understood it the same way miggy. That the night meter is the cheapest, therefore Ani does cooking, washing, etc at night to make best use of the cheap rate but the meter is registering it as the day rate, and therefore it is ridiculously expensive. But even then 2K over 9 months! How can someone guestimate for that long? they should be sending someone out to take proper readings and then it should have been picked up.0
