what dogs are dangerous?

  • I was attacked by a friends jack russel. Luckily, even though I was young I stood still and kept my nerve. Nipped at my legs and tore up my trousers, but I only had scratches, if I'd run he'd def. have chased me.

If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation
Just when you think human beings can't get any stupider, they get behind the wheel of a car...

Any dog can be dangerous and any person would be a fool to dispute that. Dogs like humans have off days and snap, even the most mild mannered of humans can turn so why can't dogs. I like dogs and have had and will in the future have dogs but I would never ever trust any dog with children no matter what. What I particularly hate is dog owners who let dogs run up to my children stating "they are harmless they love kids etc". My son hates dogs and why should he be subjected to a dog running up to him just because the owner can be bothered to keep it on a lead or away from children. Why do people put dogs over children? And why do owners presume all kids love dogs? I shall await the bashing from dog owners

    no bashing from me.

all dogs should be kept on leads/under control no matter how 'nice' they are.

me and cain often get bothered by dogs roaming off their leads or even worse out on their own because the owner (specifically a police officer -as i was told by a neighbour so im not 100% on him being one- down the road who cant be bothered to walk his dog so just opens the front door and lets the poor thing out). cain only now after 5 years tolerates other dogs. before that he would try his luck at getting them.

although we have a dog chops will be bought up to ask any dog owner before petting a dog. its what i was bought up to do and what all kids should ask before confronting and petting a dog.

we never hear about cat attacks though do we? you cant ask a cat owner 'can i stroke your cat?' and there are plenty of cats roaming round lol.

ive been savaged by cats previously. vicious !!!!!!s they were.

theres a cat down the end of my road who hides in the hedge or under a car or whatever and attacks cain when we walk past but he isnt there all the time so you never know if he will spring out or where from. cain is scared of this cat and hides behind your legs if confronted :rotfl:

I agree but the biggest problem we have is children wanting to run up to our dogs .. why would any sesnible parent allow a child to approach a dog that they do not know?
Why do people put dogs over children?
Being honest ... to me my dogs are more important than your child ever will be. As is often seen irrespective of the abuse a dog may have taken it is always the dog that is destroyed .. never the child or the owner.

Can I also add that I am sick of people buying the wrong dog or realising the responsibility that it is so they kick it out on the street to fend for itself .. or alternatively they take it to a dog sanctuary and claim that it attacked their child .. by telling such lies they have basically signed the dogs death warrant .. one of our dogs was a street dog that had been with several families and we rescued it from death row because a previous owner had said it was vicious. There is not a vicious bone in its body, it is highly strung and in 4 years has only growled at me once (when I set a chair on its foot) .. its just the previous owners were totally incapable and incompetent when it comes to looking after a dog (which worries me that they are otherwise allowed to breed and bring up human babies).

And why do owners presume all kids love dogs?
One could also ask why do irresponsible parents presume it is OK for their children to pull dogs tales, pull their ears, put them in headlocks, hit them if they don't do as they are told, kick them, chase after them, take their bone/toy off them.
I shall await the bashing from dog owners
No bashing .. there are just two sides to every story. A dog is a responsibility .. it is not a fashion object or a toy .. it is a living, breathing, emotion feeling animal.

You are so right about people letting dogs out to walk themselves. Why do they have dogs if they can not be bothered to give them the exercise they need!
No Matter what you do there will be critics.

Can't fully agree with you here. Dogs, like children, need to get rid of excess energy. By walking them on a lead does not do this .. they need to be able to run. Like children they get bored and need new stimulii, they need to be able to explore, rummage and nosey about the place .. they can not do this on a lead .. however a good owner should still be in control. Think of the average child or adult .. how do you think would feel if they were told to lie in the corner all day with no TV, radio, books etc. and then taken for a short walk to the nearest grassy bit for a dump and a whizz.

Short sighted people are demanding that all animals be kept on a lead at all times .. all that is going to happen is that we are going to end up with a lot of bored, irate and tetchy animals .. I personally believe that this will increase the number of attacks .. not decrease them. All animals (including children) need to exercise and stimulus.

Dogs should be kept on a lead WHERE THERE ARE OTHER DOGS AROUND.

One of ours is kept on a lead whenever we are out as he WILL bite your dog if it's got testicles and would also taste a sheep if he ever got the chance.

If you choose to let your dog race up to mine (on lead) and ignore my shouted warnings to you, then if my dog takes the throat out of your dog, it's YOUR fault and not mine!

The people who let their UNCONTROLLABLE dogs run off the lead are the irresponsible ones.

This dog will NEVER harm a person or a b1tch, but will kill your male dog if given the chance. He's a terrier and unfortunately that's what ALL terriers will do. It doesn't make him a dangerous dog or me an irresponsible owner.

You CAN excercise a dog on a lead. Casette leads are available upto 12 metres. That's plenty.

Our other dog, a cocker b1tch, will lick you to death, however as I know what she likes to eat, I wouldn't recommend it....

The biggwer of our two dogs used to be like that ... and we couldn't let her off the lead for a while .. she would let the other dog sniff and walk past but as soon as it turned its back she went for it. It took a lot of hard work but we eventually got her out of this habit and she is very social with most other dogs (alsations excepted .. for some reason she does not get on with alsations .. any alsation .. they attack her )

  • I have a Lhasa apsos, shes fine with women and children and most men except some. She sits growling at them then ventures out to sniff and if they are lucky she just walks away and goes and sits in her bed, not funny i know but she has had one guy with her jaws round is ankle. Thing is though she has only ever gone to snap or bite a guy who is dodgy or untrustworthy its as if she senses something. Wont go into details but when she was about 18 months old she saved me from a guy in my house by locking her teeth around his leg and she wouldn't let go until his other one was through the door, I didn't hear from him again thank goodness. If the guy is genuinely friendly and OK all she does is growl until shes satisfied hes no threat. Strange. she seems to be a very good judge of character.

Agreed, but I'm curious as to why you said 'including children' rather than 'including people' since this is important for adults too?
