hi do you know how you qualify for it?
my bf was on that when we first met and the effects were horrible very bright yellow stains on my tiolet, like oil slick.. sorry but true.
he spent ages in tiolet but it did work. guess its ok if you can stay at home, unfortunantly in his job he cant take them now.

im curious as im thinking of getting them if i qualify.
Well i qualify because i am on long term medication for my high blood pressure but i still have to lose weight on them. i cant have them on a repeat prescription but my friend down the road who has no medical problems had to lose a certain amount of weight i think it was 5% of her body weight before the doctor would give her any. I think your body mass index plays a part in it too. As for the oily stuff - well yes, like i say. It aint for the faint hearted.:o

Needless to say, when we go away, i dont take them.:D :D:D

It sounds as if maybe your blood sugar is crashing the next day because you haven't eaten.

Have you looked at the GI diet? The basic idea is that you eat food that is digested more slowly, so that you don't get such big highs and lows in your blood sugar, so you don't get such strong temptation to overdo the sweet stuff to give you a quick fix of energy. If you can borrow any of the GI diet type books from the library they should give you an idea of the foods to go for. Even if you are following a different diet plan or counting calories, it is helpful to give you a different perspective on the foods to chose.

Perhaps if you can take some low GI snacks to work - nuts and seeds or fruit maybe - it won't be too heavy on your stomach and make you sleepy.

HI Tyllwyd, thanks for that I had never even thought about my blood sugar and what you say makes sense. I'm going to research that one, also I'm working tonight so I'm going to take some nuts and fruit in with me and see how I get on tommorrow.
I also think that over time it has become a habit with me too so I've just been out and stocked on fruit and veggies and baked potato stuff for tommorrow and will definately make a meal rather than just snacking on the usual rubbish.
I am also over the weekend going to look at our shopping bills and plan some menus and get back to cooking from scratch as I had a quick workout of what we spent last week and with us barely keeping our heads above water there is the potential for a huge saving there.

  • Probably gonna get jumped on but - I think that if you have a lot of weight to lose then the slimming club route is good because when you have bad weeks, and you will, they will help you to overcome them instead of slipping back into bad habits.

I have been with slimming world now for one year, I had lost 2 stone but recently I have been putting it back on!!! Many reasons, meds, holiday, depression etc, but they have been there for me every week. You also have the website to call upon during the week and a consultant you can call anytime. Surely that is worth £4.25 a week. Basically the cost of a packet of ciggies, a magazine or a small pizza.

It also gives you a couple of hours to yourself without kids, OH (unless like me he comes to) or the tv blaring.

However, I have lost weight on my own before and managed to lose a stone or so. It has always gone back on, this is the longest I have been on a plan and inspite of recent weight gain it is not the fault of the plan as I have not followed it, neither have I felt completely out of control due to the support of the group.

  • Hi all.

Loads of great ideas here already!
I always take soup to work and I find this is loads better than even the healthiest sandwiches - eating bread seems to make me put on weight.
To make the soup just bung loads of chopped up veg in a pan and add boiling water- no oil or stock needed, it will taste fine without. Onion, carrots, sweet potato, any left over veg from the fridge (easy on the greens but for some reason left over sprouts are really nice in this!) or you can use parsnips with a bit of curry powder added at the end.
Boil it all up till soft then liquidize. Portion it out and put in plastic bags/boxes in the freezer and take one to w**k every day. Also take a small salad and some fruit and you won't be hungry. The weight seems to come off pretty quickly as long as I don't pick at too much junk in the evening.
You need to exercise a bit too, sadly, but sometime just a bit extra each day is enough rather than knackering yourself out once a week.
I've still got a bit of weight to lose but hope to be there by Christmas.
Good luck all- Don't give up if you have a bad day!

PS- Hugs to Smokybabe, sounds like you've had a bad time for a while- hope things pick up soon xxx

Hi Jellycat. I do agree with you wholeheartedly, that's why I did so well at weightwatchers. Unfortunately we just don't have that kind of money to spare. My husband is on incapacity benefit, and we are struggling. The one good thing about this thread so far is that it has made me look again at our shopping bill and I can make savings here towards other outgoings.
I am hoping if this thread continues for some virtual support here, but also I have done it once, I know what to do and this will be the kick in the pants to get me doing it.

    Hi,
I'm following a low GI diet as per the South Beach Plan as quite a few girls in work have lost a lot of weight on it. I have only been doing it since Monday but feel less bloated with cutting out the bread and other processed carbs. It is similar to Dr Atkins but much less fatty food. He says the first place weight will go is your tummy.

I go to Majorca in 3 weeks so have been going the gym every day and doing 45 minutes on the x trainer as well as 45 mins light weights DVD 3 times per week. I know this is a very intense routine but I have been going 3 times per week doing 30 mins on x trainer and heavier weights without much results.

I intend to do the gym routine for 2 weeks and then go back to 3 times per week but longer aerobic sessions. The exercise programme I am doing is called "The Ultimate New York Body plan" and uses dumbells, medicine ball and stability ball. If you like doing videos at home it is worth getting, but not for the faint hearted.
I have had 3 ceaserians and have a constantly stiff back. Already my back feels much better and more flexible.
Will repost when my two weeks are up.
Though more worried about inch loss and firming up than weight loss.

I lost 8 stone on my own, just cut out all the processed rubbish like the others said, cook from scratch, fresh veg, fruit and meat is basically what I ate. My weight had crept up a little though so it's time to take my own advice again lol. It can be done I'm sure WW works for some but my local meeting is basically an excuse for a gossip and to my mind a waste of money. Good luck it can be done! :)
  • I hate following diet plans, as I never feel like eating what I am supposed to on a specified day. The most successful diet I ever used was one of those 'weekly meal plan' ones, but instead of eating items when the diet sheet suggested I added all the ingredients of the 'allowed' meals together into one long list of all the foods I could have in one week. Then I went and bought all those foods, and put them all in the fridge/cupboard on a 'special' shelf. There was all my food for the week. The diet plan had included a 'treat' everyday of say a chocolate bar or something, so I included all those as well.

Then I just used up the foods in whatever combinations I wanted, so if I felt like four 'treats' in one day I just ate them, knowing that I would not have them again for the rest of the week - but that was okay! (This was great for when I had PMS).

This worked really well for me, as I only had to think about buying the food once a week and then it was there in the cupboard/fridge. I never felt deprived, and some weeks I even had food over at the end - so I just added this into the next weeks collection, and felt rewarded by this.

I lost loads of weight and I've never put it all back on. :D:D:D

    Hi
I just wondered if anyone had a WEEKLY DIET PLAN they could type out ----a list of the meals they followed each week(just a couple of suggestions for each meal) and what treats they allowed themselves. Just to give us lazy ones an idea?
    Thanks
