you definitley CAN lose weight on your own!!!
try the weight watchers community board for tips and motivation and stick to 3 healthy meals a day, snacking only on fruit. you'll be at 'goal' in no time!
good luck!***PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT***

Hi there Gilly- I have managed to lose 2 stone 13lbs since New Year's Day 2005- it has taken me a long while, but I am doing it slowly as I thought that way my body will gradually adjust to being thinner (hopes!!) Would like to lose half a stone more and then see how I feel.
I lost the weight by myself and found that the best way for me was not to think about going on a diet, but changing my eating habits for life. I cut down on portion sizes, started to eat loads more fresh fruit and veg- I actually like salad now!!- plus other things such as quinoa, grains, seeds etc.
I do let myself have treats; those Freddie Frogs are ideal as they give you the taste of chocolate for only about 100 cals, plus some days I do relax a bit if I feel the need (pmt time!!) as I know I can cut back for a couple of days to compensate.
I try not to miss meals too to keep my metabolism going and snack on fresh fruit in between, also if you drastically cut calories it tends to send your body into starvation mode and slows metabolism.
Exercise plays a big part for me, I tend to go to the gym/ run/ walk regularly as muscle weighs more than fat and burns more calories as well as making you appear more toned. I know that going to the gym is not for everybody, the best thing is for you to find exercise that you enjoy and are happy to make part of your life, as if you have to force yourself to do it, you just won't stick to it.
I think the key is to basically find a level of healthy eating/ exercise that you can basically maintain for the rest of your life but know that you can still look forward to treats. There are some really inspirational stories on this thread, plus as others have said, take a look at the 'Debt Free and Fat Free Wannabees' thread for even more inspiration- it's like our own online support group and cheaper than a club!! Good luck, I am sure you will do it!! xx0 -

I would really like to join please. I have just over 2 stones to lose to get me to a weight that I think I should be able to maintain. I had been thinking about rejoining (yet again!!!) WeightWatchers even though I know it never works long term for me. For ages I have been holding off rejoining as this time around I really feel, as the above poster says, that I have to find a way of eating for life. Instead, if it's ok by you, you can all be my motivation and inspiration and leader. (I will also need a huge push to try to incorporate some exercise in to my life.) I think I will report in my weight (loss???) once a week as I would do if I returned to WW. I may even try to put my £5 into a jar as treat money for when I reach my target. (I would say to buy myself a new wardrobe of clothes but, if I do get to my target weight I will have a new wardrobe of clothes i.e all the ones in there that don't fit me now!!)
Kind regards0 -
hi, i am on the slimfast diet, the good thing about that is that you only have to think about doing yoirself one meal a day as the other two meals you have bar, soups etc.
hope you dont mind putting my advice in. it works for me but not for everybody.

I'd like to lose a stone. I'm 9 stone 10lbs but would feel happier being just under 9. I've been comfort eating and was on holiday last week which didn't help. My plan is this - starting Monday....
1. swim twice a week (40 lengths)
2. yoga 3 times a week
3. walk alot more than use the car
4. snack on raisins, cereal bars, fruit etc..
5. plan my meals
6. drink a litre bottle of H2o every day
7. wine only at weekends
8. eat alot more fish / steamed veg etc...
9. try and go hill walking at weekends etc...
I'll keep posting and good luck to everyone!

Weight to loose 49lbs done of 91lbs finally sat in a pair of size 14 jeans and top for the first time in 14 years :j0 -
I've lost three stones since New Years 2005 - would have been a lot more, but I went of track for a good six months and put a lot back on... still only 1 st 5 lbs off my target now!
I do Atkins, the proper way, not the eating a load of rubbish way, and find I feel much healthier and eat much better because of it. I also do the weights program in Weight Training Made Easy by Joyce L Verdal, it takes about 40 minutes a day and really tones wobbly bits upYou could probably get it from a library if you were interested.

I really don't like calorie/portion counting etc type diets as you can become obsessed and can't just get on with eating like a normal person - too much like deprivation for me!!
This time I have lost approx 1st 3lb (post baby) with no exercise by not counting anything or cutting out anything or buying low-fat except:
1. must eat 1 big bowl of porridge a day
2. must eat half can baked beans or a portion of lentils or other pulses/equivalent fibre rich food a day
3. switch to wholemeal bread for sandwiches (and no toast for snacks)
4. must drink 1.5 litres water a day (supposed to be 2 l but can't do it!!)
5. must eat at least 3 portions fruit and 2 portions veg a day
I think I was so busy eating all that stuff (needed fibre rich diet for other reasons) that i didn't have much eating time left to eat too much junk. I never bought low fat anything or didn't eat something because of the calories.0 -
Of course you don't have to attend a slimming club to lose weight - you can do it on your own if you have the willpower, but some people find the thought of facing the dreaded scales at Slimming World/Weightwatchers or whatever gives them the motivation to stick to a healthy eating plan.
By the way, there's already an established 'Lose Weight' thread on the 'I wanna' board, if anyone wants to join us. You don't have to attend any classes, there are lots of people 'going it alone' and we have the 2 pound weight loss club, the lose a stone by Christmas challenge, and the Day One club for people who have fallen off the wagon.
Join us - you'll be made very welcome.
