Not really my type of thread - I am probably a good 3 stone overweight, but I was intrigued by the question.
Two years ago, my student daughter managed to get hold of a 'weight-watchers' book, listing all points per product, or whatever they do. Anyway, the four girls in her house, followed the regime religuously, and all lost huge amounts of weight, without having to pay anything to WW.
There must, though, be something in there which allows for the odd deviation from the diet, as everytime I visited, they were all up for a take-away, or plate-cleaning session at the local Italian Restaurant.

If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

    only occasionally though.

maybe we should have diet diary/progress too?

    id be up for it

Does your GPs surgery do a weight loss clinic? Mine does. My Gp has been prescribing Xenical for me but you have to qualify and it aint for the faint hearted.

I dont really know much about Xenical, but my next door neighbour has lost 2 stone since April with these tablets. Basically, she told me that she takes one with each 'fatty' meal she eats and it stops the body from digesting the fat and it come out when you go to the toilet ... a bit like a greasy poo! YUK.

Anyway, she still had to control her diet so I see no reason why she had to take them in the first place , but there you go.
  • Yes of course you can lose weight by yourself. The help that clubs give you is psychological. You still have to watch portion sizes and ask yourself “Am I really hungry?”. Having said that if you think that you would fail without the moral support of the club and fellow members then it is money well spent. Getting carried away with eating is similar to getting carried away with spending. The remedies are also similar such as asking if something is a want or a need. In the same way as you will not die if you do not buy a new pair of shoes you will not die if you refuse a cream cake. With spending you have to keep a roof over your head and pay essential bills. With eating you have to eat enough nutritionally balanced food to keep you healthy.

Can I just add ... the best advice I got a while ago was not to say 'I want to lose a stone' but that I want to lose 1lb or 2lb per week. That way I broke down the weightloss and was happy with the results.

There are roughly 12 weeks until Christmas, so if you set the target of 1lb or 2lb per week, you CAN lose a stone by then and fit into your new dress size.

When I lost weight I just substituted what I ate for a healthier option.

I had potato wedges instead of chips, I cut all fat off bacon, pork chops etc, I changed to skimmed milk instead of semi skimmed ... It's really easy to do and you don't feel as though you are dieting. I also ended each meal with a piece of fruit so easily got my 5 portions a day with meals and after.

Good Luck to all those trying, remember, break your weightgoal down and aim to lose a couple of lbs a week ... you CAN do it. :D

hi do you know how you qualify for it?
my bf was on that when we first met and the effects were horrible very bright yellow stains on my tiolet, like oil slick.. sorry but true.
he spent ages in tiolet but it did work. guess its ok if you can stay at home, unfortunantly in his job he cant take them now.

im curious as im thinking of getting them if i qualify.
  • Why pay for WW when you can loose weight for free?

Basically to loose weight you need to burn off more calories than you consume. Simple really. You also need to eat 6 times a day, I'm talking 3 main meals, and 3 snacks, evenly spaced out over the day, this will stop you from feeling hungary. Also drink about 4 litres of water a day.

Obviously the food and snacks should be healthy, and not for example, a mars bar, pack of crisps, and some biscuits!!

Also do some exercise, walking and running are free, and you can also do resistance training with your own body weight, sit ups, press ups, etc etc.

Edited: Forgot to add, healthy weight loss is approx 1-2lbs per week, anything more and your likely to put it back on, or means your loosing muscle mass.

This is also not a quick fix, no point in loosing 1 stone, then going back to your old ways, then wondering why you have put weight on.

    My two pence worth anyhow...

I have probably more than 2 stone to lose, :o however that would be a brilliant start  so I would love to join in any thread starting soon. Having stopped smoking recently :j I need to get a handle on the weight before that gets out of control.

When we going to start then?!
