You can definately loose weight without the need for an embarrassing wiegh in and number counting to the point of obsession!
I agree with the main theme - cook from scratch - then you know exactly what is in the food and can adjsut accordingly.
Personaly i weigh myself every morning before my shower.
I have worked out that it takes me approx two days to put on the weight of a "bad" day and armed with this knowledge i plan my days food.
But every day i have biscuits AND crisps so I dont feel deprived.
In general my diet is as follows:
Breakfast (one of)
Porridge and honey OR
1 slice toast and marmite OR
One shredded wheat OR
One yoghurt
Lunch
Sandwhich on granary (ham and colslaw, tuna and a little mayo, mashed boiled egg and a littel mayo...)
Crisps (morrison own "eat smart" range are beteen 30 and 50 calories per pack)
Afternoon tea with biscuit (both rich tea (2 x 30ish ckal) and digestive (1 x 66kcal) come in low fat versions)
Evening meal - whatever i cook for my Boyf (meat, chips, chilli kind of guy) i make from scratch and either replace the chips etc for veg, the white rice/pasta for brown and for meals like chilli, curry etc I mix half of my ususal portion with vegetables - feels like same amount of food but less calories, he doesnt know i'm dieting, get my vegies, dont have to cook two meal - works out cheaper!
For evening snacks if needed I have home made popcorn (great microwave popcorn bowl from lakeland)
Then I only drink one night a week (try to) but I dont deprive myself meals out or birthday celebrations.
On this self made plan i am loosing about 1-2 pounds per week.
i know this isnt instant weight loss or "6 pound in two weeks" type stuff but no-one has to know I am dieting, my family dont have to diet with me, and i feel in full control every day becasue of using the scales - plus I get to eat crisps and biscuits every day!
Maybe I should copywrite it
Hope some of the tips help.
another great idea would be to start your own slimming club on here! (sorry if it has already been suggested)DFW Nerd 156 :hello:

Forgot to mention - shop for fresh veg in bulk - then chop and dice it all and freeze in bowls in the freezer. Adding veg as a substitute in meals takes a couple of seconds to grab a handful!DFW Nerd 156 :hello:

I lost 2 stone, went from nearly a size 18 down to a size 10 (I'm 5ft 10) a couple of years back. I'm back to a size 12-14 so I am going on another "lifestyle change" with my husband starting next week.
It's not about dieting - as once you hit your target, you'll stop and go back to what you used to eat. it's about retraining your appetities, your taste buds, everything.
First off I recommend taking your waist, hip and bust measurements, at the widest point for each. Then weigh yourself (I do this naked first thing in the morning after going to the loo - and weigh myself like this the same every week so it is accurate) and write it all down.
I even made up a weight loss spreadsheet.
Get your bloke to take a photo of you wearing a bikini or something similar. it's one thing looking in the mirror and thinking what you look like, but seeing a photo of yourself can really hit home how other people see your size. it's scary. It's a HUGE motivator. It's what started me off losing my 2 stone. I've just got back from honeymoon, I took a pic of my husband in swim shorts, and he was shocked he looks so fat, he thought he looked good (I still think he's fab!). But it's scared him into losing some serious weight.
Then I calculated how many calories for my weight and height I needed to eat daily. You have to subtract 500 a day to lose 1lb a week. or subtract 1000 a day to lose 2lbs a week. Use online calorie calculators to work all this lot out.
LEARN how many calories are in things. My husband picked up a dessert pot in Tescos, and looking at the calories he said it was only 180. I read it, it said 180 per SERVING, the pot said it did FIVE servings! He was gonna buy it and eat it in one go!
Try and find stuff you like to eat that are low in calories. I like as my snacks - fruit, yoghurt, cottage cheese, rice cakes, scrambled eggs, diet coke is good for sweet cravings, low cal soups, etc.
Up your protein levels. Nuts and meats/fish are high in protein (but watch the calories). I eat tuna out of the tin loads and this works very well for me. Protein is thought to supress your appetite (which is how the Atkins diet is thought to work - high protein diet so your appetite gets smaller) so try and have a lot.
LOTS of people think they are hungry when in fact they are thirsty happens 50% of the time. So next time you want food, think, am I just thirsty? Also, drink a pint of water before each meal, it tricks your stomach into thinking you are full, so you eat much much less. Try and drinks as much water as you can daily.
DO NOT skip meals! It makes you hungry and then you will snack. That sick dizzy feeling you describe is wrong, means you have gone too long without eating and your body is now craving an energy burst and knows the quickest way is through junk food. If you eat little and often then you won't get cravings (as badly anyway).
Don't have junk food in the house, then you can't eat it! If you go out, take lunch with you if you need to, to stop you having the excuse to grab a burger.
I am addicted to sugar. I get stressy and snappy when I give up chocolate/sweets. But I do a combination of cutting back loads, and then sometimes I go cold turkey for a while. The first day is not too bad, days 2-3 are the worst and by day 5+ you don't miss it so much. Then it gets to the point where you look at the sweet shelves in the shops and think, oh I don't eat those any more.
Stick pics of you looking your worst, and pics of skinny celebs (whoever you want the body of) on your fridge. Very inspirational!
Don't comfort eat, "comfort have a bubble bath" instead. Find something to do with your hands - sewing, knitting, making stuff, press ups, learning to juggle, anything in front of the tv to stop you eating.
Cut back on drinking. It reduces your willpower and you are more likely to snack. It is very high in calories (hence the term beer belly). AND if that's not enough it slows mdown your metabolism so you burn off even less calories than normal!
Lastly, exercise is the secret weapon. Not only does it burn calories, it a) means you have less time for eating and b) fills your body with lots of adrenalin so you don't need the rush of sugar.
Seriously, when I exercise regularly, I actively CRAVE healthier foods because my body needs it to keep me going during exercise. When you exercise loads, junk makes you feel rubbish.
Even something simple like going for walks every other day, or my personal favourtie, buying (or borrowing) exercise DVDs/videos will help you loads. I have done swimming for a while, joined the work gym cos it was dead cheap, even did Judo for £2.50 a week, until I broke my foot as the result of a bad throw (doh!). I always buy exercise dvds with the BEST looking people on them. No offence to them, but I don't want to exercise for hours to end up looking like some people who present these! Elle MacPhearson's The Body is very good. And some of the dance ones are fab and fun too.
My best mate has bought a dance mat for her x box (ask for it as a xmas pressie off someone?) and says it is a great way to exercise.
Also, I spend time on the internet reading through everyone's before and after stories on the WW website, cos it motivates me.
Having something to say in your head helps too, I like "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels" which I say to myself when I crave junk.
Another thing I did for a while was my own invention - the half of everything diet. I could eat whatever junk I liked but only half of it. This helps with portion control. So splitting a cheeseburger, or a chocolate bar with my husband, means we get half the calories of having one each.
Good luck, you can do it if you really want to. try writing down the reasons you want to lose weight, to look at later on when you get discouraged. And accept weight loss takes time, you are in it for the long haul, and I promise you you are gonna feel sooooooo good!Pay off CC debt by Xmas 2017 #095 £0 of £11,416 :eek:0 -
 O. K. I've just weighed myself and I have loads and loads to loose.
So I will start today as I haven't eaten yet. (Normally I do not eat breakfast as I am not hungry in the mornings.)
My biggest problem is that I work nights and after my sleep the next day I get the munchies terribly. I do not eat at work as I have found over time that it knocks me out, and as I am on my own all night I can't afford to fall asleep. Can you imagine the day staff coming in and finding me snoring!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: Jobcenter for sure. Any suggestions to combat this would be very much appreciated.
Right now I need to loose 92lb, there I've said it. Argh!!!!!!!!!!!
I will keep reading and posting my loss here as I think this will be a great inspiration to me:j :j :j . xxxIf you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape 100 days of sorrow.......Chinese proverb

I lost a stone and a half and have managed to keep it off (except for about 4lbs!). I did it by making my own food, upping the exercise - mainly swimming and walking.
It sometimes help to keep a food diary for a couple of weeks - you would be amazed at how much you eat and when without thinking - in front of the TV or when you're making dinner etc.
Good luck.:D0 -
Eating when making dinner was a down fall of mine - now i keep a pack of chewing gum in the cupboard above the cooker.
You cant snack whilst chewing gum!DFW Nerd 156 :hello:

Hi again!
Aww the replies are fab----I dont really want to go away now LOL----I want to get started!
I need to lose 28lbs to bring my BMI to 25----at present it is 29.4.My aim will be to lose a stone by Xmas---so starting on the 9th Oct will give me 10 weeks to lose it! I am sure i can do it!
I am going to start swimming once a week with a friend and make sure I walk my dog daily---how hard can that be(at the moment I am happy to let OH take her out---told you I lacked motivation!!).
I am thinking of making everything from scratch
giving OH the same but double the portion size plus loading mine with Veggies! Also having yogurts and fruit for puddings!!
The chocolate I wont cut out completely but maybe have a Freddo Frog bar every other day!
I dont think counting calories will be the answer for me as if i am cooking from scratch it is difficult to work out what is in everything. I am just going to make healthy choices----and reduce my portion sizes!Sealed pot challenge 7...my number is 2144.....started Nov 29th ....0
