Beware Belmont Thornton claims company

I had a claim in with Belmont Thornton over a year ago for a couple of cards that I had. They used to send regular update ltrs saying they were still looking into claim. This year I was contacted by anothr company (had totally forgot about B.T) who, within 3 months put my claims in, won them & paid out, on 23rd Sept I recd a ltr frm Belmont saying that they were succesful in one of the claims, when I rang to ask hownmuch they said they werent sure if the amount (????), I advised them I had already been paid out, the man was extremely rude & demanded a termination fee, when I asked how much that was, he snapped that he didnt know, I asked him to put this is writing, he said only when I send him my claim ltr frm the ther other company, he said that they had put a lot of work into working on this claim...not sure why it took them frm last year when another company did it in 3 mths!! SHAM springs to mind!!!
Firstly, its not the wisest move in the world to ask two companies to do the same job.
Have you ever bought car insurance twice because you forgot that you'd already bought it? Imagine you phoned the first car insurance salesperson and told them you wanted your policy voided because you accidently bought car insurance again a second time. Understandably they would question what you were doing!
I don't think there's any excuse for rudeness however I'm just trying to explain why the person you spoke to might have been a little annoyed.
Secondly, there is no way that the second company could have continued the complaint if it was already lodged under the name Belmont Thornton. You should check which company FIRST started the complaint and then settle up with them. If you ask company to do something and they do it, then you should pay them.
The speed of the complaints has nothing to do with what company you use, or if you complain yourself. The second company won't have been ''quicker''. They may have reached a settlement sooner simply because the Banks court case (Judical Review) ended in April and the complaints process has ''sped up'' since then.
There are a thousand things that claims companies do wrong and I've heard bad things on this forum about Belmont Thornton. However from what you've said I can't see that they've done anything wrong here.0 -
Just put a post on this thread which may help (although it is a different ambulance chaser). It's quite long so I am not typing it out again!0

Can't see any post from you on the thread. Has someone removed it?

I have had 3 phone calls and 2 letters from Belmont Thornton in the last 14 days ,Chasing payment for an account which has not yet been settled , I HAVE complained 6 times in e-mail and 4 times on the phone and still they chase their commision with gusto.
I would not at any time recommend this company, your the client and you have to do all the chasing and letter writting and phone calls to both Belmont Thrnton and your PPI loan company.
Belmont Thornton are not at all interested in anything other than the commission and you get no client service Belmont Thronton are a totally un-professional company DO NOT USE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

Has anyone got a copy of the Ts & Cs this company issued them? I have a letter from them to a relative which states they take 25% + VAT of the refund amount. My relative should never have got involved with them given the ease of doing this via me or a friend, but water under the bridge now... I agree, if there is a clear agreement, my relative has to part with 25% + VAT (rate not specified of course lol... they are a bit useless aren't they!) however, if there is a way out of it then they can take a hike in my view
Update: Parted with the 25%. Seems fair enough really, the Ts & Cs are clear and my relative signed up to them so it is what it is and they have received the banks payment and settled the Belmont Thornton bill. Overall they did ok out of it and Belmont Thornton did the work for my relative so they earned what they agreed...
However, I think my advice to anyone approached by these or any other company offering the same service is this. Read the Ts & Cs very carefully. Ask around your family and friends for advice. Read up on MSE about the issue. You can do it yourself in many cases, and 25% might not always be the best deal (though I am no expert in it) Good luck all!0 -
After months of chasing them (Belmont Thornton) and numerous phone calls i was finally told I was to receive just over £3,000 from A credit card I had paid PPI on. two days later I received a bill from Belmont Thornton for £997.00 to be paid within 28 days and 6 weeks later I am still waiting for my refund ??? I am a Disabled single mum and cannot afford to pay this bill, what do I do now. Where do I stand in claming this money ? Do I contact the credit card company ? This is all a big headache for me and I dont know which way to turn.0

It is not your fault you have not recieved the redress and they should allow you more time.0 -
I have been notified by Belmont Thornton that I have been successful with 2 minor claims (£7 and £23 after they've taken their 25% fees) and 1 Larger claim (£1,000). I have received several final demands and I haven't received any money from them or the firms they say I have a successful claim against.
Can anyone give advice on this. It looks like I've got myself into debt for absolutely nothing at all.0
