Beware Belmont Thornton claims company

This is coming from the "other side" as some of you may see it. However, I think it does no harm to see the picture from the other side sometimes. Plus, anyone thinking of using this claims company ought to know how incompetent they are.

An IFA has just told me that he received a complaint recently accusing him of mis-selling MPPI and Belmonth Thornton were asking for the client to be put back in the position of where they would have been before the "mis-sale". They listed a range of template style reasons. Nothing personalised.

Here is where it falls down.
1 - The IFA never sold MPPI. It was life assurance with critical illness
2 - The policyholder had a claimable event back in 2002 and the policy paid out in full (£80k and only 12 months after they started the policy)

When the complaints hander for the IFA contacted Belmont Thornton to say that no MPPI had been sold and it was a life and CI policy, Belmont Thornton didnt have a clue what that type of insurance is.

The complaint has been rejected and the IFA has blacklisted the client and told all the other IFA and mortgage advisers he knows so we can blacklist them too.

So, if you are considering using Belmont Thornton, be aware that they don't know what they are talking about, they are not helping you any more beyond a template letter and they are actively encouraging fraudulent complaints.

For those that have genuine complaints, it is claims like these that make your job harder because that is not an uncommon event.

  • I agree Dunstonh - i see lots of letters from this CMC - they are in the main identical and 30% of them don't actually have PPI!

You'd think that one of the first questions they ask would be "do you actually have PPI?"

It isn't this one only - most CMC's operate in this way.

    Keeps me busy!

It makes you wonder what they must be telling people on their cold calls.

Normally, a client that has a claim that results in an £80k payout would be falling over backwards to thank the IFA. I know that tends to be the case in my experience. Then nearly 10 years later, they then put a complaint in against the IFA to try and get back premiums that they paid for just 12 months. What can a claims company say to someone to persuade them to make a complaint after that? Although it also calls into question the integrity of the "clients".

I would be spitting feathers if it was me. However, the IFA in question has the satisfaction of being allowed to have it treated as a frivolous complaint and not have put on his record.

They are always asked if they have PPI its just often clients simply put yes so they can take a shot at it. It is unfortunate that so many people are jumping on the reclaims bandwagon. However, it pays the rent.

Common Sense 2 can i ask who you work for? If not then no worries.

    Hi there Ian

As SDW have said, don't use a claims company, they are more hassle than their worth, and lots on here have had so much of it.

If there is anyone at home that can help you that end, ask them to check out this site for help, its all free, and on refund you will get to keep what rightfully belongs to you and not pay charges.

There is a link below that takes you to the reclaiming procedures, from start to finish, its a matter of completing the PPI reclaiming Questionnaire, and sending it off to whoever mis sold the policy.

They have 8 weeks in full to give a response/decision, they sometimes ask for more time.

The link here and ask for help when required, good luck.

  • Yes I agree with all that is said here. I know of some one who went to Belmount last Nov 2009 and have had noting but hassle and lies told to them from all the people in B/T that they speak to.
I have even told my friend to report them to the Ministry of Justice.
