Beware Belmont Thornton claims company

  • I came across this thread from Googling Belmont Thornton. I was so doing having received numerous text messages and emails from the company suggesting that I had grounds for a claim and urging me to contact them to begin procedings. The only debts I have ever had have been my mortgage - always paid on time, no protection attached to it, and a car loan which again was correctly repaid and did not include any element of payment protection. Credit cards are cleared each month and therefore no charges are made. Given this history it seems bizarre that this company keep spamming me with contacts which give the vague impression they have some insight in to my situation. The text messages they send give me no 'stop' option so I contacted them through their own website to explain that I have no need of their services and request that they stop sending the texts. Alas I still get the messages and have no response.

It strikes me that a company that operates in this way probably does not have their customers best interests at heart and isnt in the business of playing fair. It would not entirely surprise me if they encourge clients to expand the truth in pursuit of a fast buck.
  • It may be useful to people to know that Belmont Thornton appear to be the company behind the "ppiclaimcompany.co.uk" website. Given the posts here, I doubt a slick web-site will make much difference to their professionalism or customer service !
  • Just had a letter from them, addressed to Emikoko Fumikoko, who's unknown to me and has certainly never lived here. Without opening, I can see "Your claim pack - You could be owed thousands"; and "Claim Ref:fzalu292746-003."
I've had a couple (a Mr & Mrs Lazenby) running up debts using my address (they've never lived here, either), and now this!
Is Mr/Mrs/Ms Fumikoko hoping to submit a bogus claim pretending to live here, or are Belmont Thornton really making it all up in the hope of luring the actual occupant into signing up?

Firstly, its not the wisest move in the world to ask two companies to do the same job.

Have you ever bought car insurance twice because you forgot that you'd already bought it? Imagine you phoned the first car insurance salesperson and told them you wanted your policy voided because you accidently bought car insurance again a second time. Understandably they would question what you were doing!

I don't think there's any excuse for rudeness however I'm just trying to explain why the person you spoke to might have been a little annoyed.

Secondly, there is no way that the second company could have continued the complaint if it was already lodged under the name Belmont Thornton. You should check which company FIRST started the complaint and then settle up with them. If you ask company to do something and they do it, then you should pay them.

The speed of the complaints has nothing to do with what company you use, or if you complain yourself. The second company won't have been ''quicker''. They may have reached a settlement sooner simply because the Banks court case (Judical Review) ended in April and the complaints process has ''sped up'' since then.

There are a thousand things that claims companies do wrong and I've heard bad things on this forum about Belmont Thornton. However from what you've said I can't see that they've done anything wrong here.[/QUOTE

they do nothing. just repost your info to the ombudsman, their total cost is a stamp. the ombudsman does all the work. see my thread,
  • Would appreciate any advice. I have never had any PPI cover, but, like a previous poster i've received a letter from Belmont Thornton, all addressed correctly, apart from my name. I've lived at this address for 35 years and i have no knowledge of the person named in the address line. The letter states that they have assessed this persons claim and have commenced proceedings, giving a claim ref, number and a named lender. Are Belmont Thornton making a fraudulent claim using my address details? Thoughts on how i should deal with this would be very much appreciated

I signed up with Belmont Thornton and received paperwork for claiming back PPI, which I completed and returned. I subsequently received a letter from both BT and my credit card company advising me that I am to be refunded £314.84 (of which the BT fee is to be £94.45).
I was asked to complete an 'Options' form by the credit card company and return it. At the same time, I received the same Options form from BT.
It was at this time my father become seriously ill and subsequently died and therefore there was a delay of some weeks before I sent the completed Options form back to BT to progress my claim - I only sent the 1 Options form and I sent it to BT as they were my 'agents' in the claim.
Since then, I have been receiving texts and letters from BT demanding their fee. I have made several phone calls during which I have been spoken to very rudely most of the time. I was told by one BT employee that it was my own fault anyway for not sending the Options form back when I first received it! AGAIN, I told them about the circumstances at the time with Dad taking ill and was told "No offence but that's not our problem"!
I've spoken with a Manager at BT - same outcome though not quite as rude.
I still haven't received my refund but am still receiving threats from BT - the letter this morning says they have no choice but to hand my outstandng 'debt' to a debt collection agency!!

Having read so many other similar stories here on the forum, my heart goes out to so many of you and I realise that the fee that BT are chasing me for is VERY small in comparison to others out there. However, the principle is the same - BT are money-grabbing vultures, who MUST be aware of the distress they are causing to those people whom they have committed to help.

How do they sleep at night???????
  • Hi,

After receiving a claim pack in the post randomly from belmont thornton at xmas i decided to try my luck and see if i was entitled to any ppi money despite me being in arrears and debt management after spending learning 3 years ago that i have mental health issues and have being under there care ever since.

All i did was sign the claim form and send it back ive heard NOTHING from Belmont Thornton no letters no phone calls since i posted it 8 months ago until i received a letter from RBS via Natwest stating that they would offer me £11.400 refund however this would come off my debt which i havent paid in over 3 years as it is being worked out through my solicitor, fair enough.

Then today i received a letter from Belmont Thornton stating that they had successfully won my claim but because of the arrears i now have to pay them £3000+ in the next 28 days even tho i had NO IDEA they were even fighting my corner or if i could make a claim in the first place!

    What should i do?

FORMAL COMPLAINT OF MISSELLING AGAINST BELMONT THORNTON

Last Christmas I received an unsolicited form through the post from your company inviting me to complete and return it in order to receive redress for missold Payment Protection Insurance.

I wish to complain that you never made enquiries into whether I had alternative means of pursuing a complaint and therefore breached Client Specific Rule 10 of the Conduct of Authorised Persons Rules 2007

I also wish to complain that you failed to inform me of the risks involved, in particular that, because I was in a debt management arrangement, a successful claim would not result in any money coming to me but I would nevertheless be forced to pay a substantial fee to you. Thus putting you in breach of client specific rule 11a.

I consider this failure on your part to have been dishonest and irresponsible, thus breaching General Rules 1 and 2 and to constitute the misselling of your services to me.

I therefore expect you to waive your fee and trust that you will write and confirm this has been done.

A copy of this e-mail is being sent to your regulator, the Ministry of Justice.

  • Hello Everyone.

I have read this thread with some distaste regarding the treatment you have received from Belmont Thornton. A company which to me needs to be thoroughly investigated by the SRA and brought to its knees.

I first found out about their so called PPI claims from unsolicited spam I seem to keep receiving. I am IT skilled so explored the email a bit and found out the root of these unsolicited and illegal emails were Belmont Thornton. I immediately notified the ICO (Information Commissioners Office) quoting Belmont Thornton's data protection registration number which is Z1728023. I recommend as a first step you all do the same. Lets first of all stop them cold calling and spamming to save others from the problems your encountering.

Next (and as I contacted Belmont Thornton to explain) I used to work for The Law Society of England and Wales. At the time this was the regulatory body for solicitors working in England and Wales. Under the 2007 solicitors regulation act this changed to the Legal Ombudsman and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

Both the Legal Ombudsman and the SRA are here to help you guys. They are the people who decide each year who can practise law in the UK and who cannot. I know this because I worked for them for many years and they are all very nice people and very helpful. I cannot post links but you can google them and you will find that they will help for free and will get results!

You should all contact these organisations and start a complaint against the aggressive, intrusive and unprofessional methods employed by Belmont Thornton. The second you start your appeal all money that BT claim you owe will be put on hold whilst the case against them is created.

It is free to use the above services and it would be a disservice to everyone on these forums if you did not all start proceedings. I hate seeing solicitors acting in such a manner.

They are also not regulated by the Ministry of Justice as they claim on their website. What a load of balony that is. They are regulated by the SRA and the Law Society of England and Wales and they are breaching their practising rights by not stating this fact.

I have done all I can and now its over to you guys. Stop them please. Lets get some justice!

According to the MOJ's own register, it DOES regulate Belmont Thornton Limited under reference CRM18273

That does not alter the fact that they are scum.
