I have an old pine wardrobe that I want to paint. I'm not looking for the distressed look, just painting a block colour.
Do I have to sand it first or could I just use a primer before painting?0 -
is it varnished or waxed?0

Hello everybody.
I am currently working my way through the thread - yes, really
currently on page 215 so will be with you shortly
I am embarking on a mission to upgrade the furniture - I have already painted a wardrobe and a bookcase in ASCP. it's not perfect, but it has put new life into very worn looking pieces.
Anyhoo, i am planning to paint an old pine chest of drawers / bedside table for my DD's new room. Even though she is 19, she wants it Marvel superhero themed
I am going to paint the CoD and bedside table "captain america blue" -or probably the nearest Annie Sloan shade to it.
But i want to put these knobs on

However, they work out quite expensive for 13 knobs. i wondered about painting the existing ones, putting on a mini transfer / sticker and then varnishing.
Would that work?
Thanks for any advice.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I've seen decoupage knobs that look fab, not done it myself but may do sometime. If you paint the knobs with Chalk paint , put a few coats of varnish on/ dry / before applying the design, then varnish over it.

ermm..not sure. I would guess varnished, but I suspect the layer of varnish would be quite thin by now.0 -

unvarnished pine leaves brown marks showing through on the knots unless primed with stain blocker. Varnished pine tend to be orange, waxed is blonde or brownish usually.
I seldom sand anything, but a light sanding will help any paint adhere. Primer is good with gloss type paint. I wouldn't use it with chalk paint as it lifted once for me.0 -
VJsMum - what about decoupaging part of the furniture and paint the knobs, as they can be a bit fiddly. My tablet won't link today, but pinterest captain america decoupage, there's some lovely items.0

I'll probably use a satinwood paint. Don't want to use gloss. I painted some chest of drawers a few years back and I'm wanting the same kind of finish.
I'll buy primer tho' this time as the chest of drawers were a bit MDF.0 -
Home bargains had the crystal drawer knobs back in stock today at Folkestone 4 for £2.99 - very pretty.0
