Hi Deborah, I didnt remove the glass. I got the black and orange paint off using nail varnish remover. I masked all the glass off which was a pain, when I took the masking tape off it looked messy so I bought a craft knife from The Range and my husband scraped down each side to neaten it up.

I lost interest for a week or so because it seemed like so much work but doing it was easier than thinking about it! The wallpapering was the easiest bit, good luck with yours x

Sorry to jump in, but thought you guys would have an idea regarding the fact that I'e painted some kitchen cabinet doors a water based egg shell, but would think that it will be difficult to keep clean. Is there any way I could seal the paint to give it a protective layer or should it be okay?

Fab photos by the way, some gorgeous projects on here.

I would imagine you could varnish it for extra protection, they say eggshell doesnt need it but Ive found in my house that it marks quite easily. Wilkinsons do a quick dry matt varnish that would do it.

Thanks for that - it's what I thought - it will mark easily.

Cheers, I'll get some matt varnish. It took ages to pick the colour & now I'm nearly finished it just occured that it will not be forgiving of every day spillages etc!

The easiest home made chalk paint for me to use is 3 parts emulsion, 1 part plaster of Paris ( from The Range) nearly 1 part of warm water. Mix p of P & water well, for a few minutes then add in the paint. Stir well, and stir often during use. It takes up to 4 coats to go from dark brown to white.

lol at the red letters .. if you put home made chalk paint in the "search this thread" there will be discussion on use etc.....................^^^ above the ^ on my screen.

i have just redone my spare bedroom/dressing room/ daughters room for a few months when she comes home in the winter/granddaughter's room where she sleeps if she stays so very busy room. i painted it in November last year so not bothered repenting but got some charity shop drawers and dressing table and painted it white also the wardrobe that was in there i had some old wicker baskets i sprayed pink and blue to go on the dressing table to put things in painted the seat of an old stool pink i had a nice lamp but it had a black shade and i had a cheap plastic lamp with pink shade so put the pink shade on the nicer lamp. the only thing i bought new was the bedspread that was only £19 the dressing table and drawers where £20 so new look room for under £40.

Still got a long way to go as this upper section is only a quarter of the units. I splashed the cash on F&B paint and expensive handles but I think if I'm coming in under £300, that's okay! It could be done for far less.

I'll show you when I get further along. Keep on paintin'!
