Ive painted a few things but bought this cabinet purely to try the wallpapering and for the challenge. It was a lot of work as the colour of the wood bled through the paint so I had to use a stain block, then paint, then scrape off the glass even though I had masked the glass. Loved it so much we wanted to keep it but nowhere for it to go.

    Loving everyone's achievements.
I managed to find 2 carver chairs for £25 recently (they were really minging when I picked them up), after a big clean up, I gave them 2 coats of wickes chalky paint followed by 2 coats of my kitchen feature wall paint and then finished with 3 coats of wilko's matt varnish. There's a few clumps of paint that I couldn't sand very well, but Im pleased with how they've turned out and I love the matt varnish effect. I'll never gloss anything again.

hey Meames ... how's the HMCP holding up on the chairs? They've been repined 31 times from my board! :D

Not to well, but more likely because they were almost rotten before I painted them, didn't put any prep in , the paint used was probably five years opened left in a manky wooden she'd, i just slapped on the HMCP and did nothing else, they have plants on them too, so apart from the onslaught of rain over the last few years, they also get watered with the fish tank water every fortnight. So they have done better than expected ;).

I think prep. Would have been key, perhaps I will redo them this summer. They look so good in the picture! I couldn't possibly put now one on.

Tiff - That cabinet is beautiful, you should be very proud of that!

I managed to pick up a box of sample tiles (70's ones - 2" square) and a tub of mosaic pieces for £1 at a boot fair - the next week I found a lovely little pine table - very water marked but ideal to mosaic and paint - also £1. Just need to find the time to do it now!

    Tiff - This Is Beautiful!

This is so impressive and I am really pleased to see it just now. I bought an oak cabinet a couple of weekends ago and I am starting to work on it so may I pick your brains?

The cupboard I have has glass panels on the front and sides - I know I can get the glass cut but how did you replace it? Did you use putty or something?

I started painting after removing the front door (two of the panels will need replacing on the front door) just to see how it looked but I had to stop and do dinner (DH was getting hungry!) so I will keep on with it doing it over the next few weekends.

Very impressed with yours though - I hadn't thought of wallpaper - I was planning to line with material but paper might be better :j so many options!!

    many thanks

Sorry to jump in, but thought you guys would have an idea regarding the fact that I'e painted some kitchen cabinet doors a water based egg shell, but would think that it will be difficult to keep clean. Is there any way I could seal the paint to give it a protective layer or should it be okay?

Fab photos by the way, some gorgeous projects on here.
