Hi everyone, all your items look amazing.

I am looking for a bit of advice, I have an old cheap (argos) shoe cabinet, i have no idea what it is made of, very plasticy looking wood and woodchip I would guess at?

Is there anything I can do to improve it, I was thinking of painting but not sure it would stick to the surface. Any help would be marvelous, thankyou x

my wardrobe doors where a similar finish i used a primer that you wipe on leave 30 minutes and wipe off and then used cupboard paint to paint them. i did the same thing with my kitchen cupboard doors a couple of years ago and had no problems with them.

ESP! Easy surface Preparation! It's the bees knees! It sounds like what you used aklmatthews. Forget your lumpy old chalk paint that needs sealing and sanding. ESP is where it's at. It chemically bonds paint to your surface. You'll never get it off. You can use any waterbased paint over it. One bottle goes a long long way. It's my new love. You can use it on plastic, tile glass and so long as you degrease the surface first, it'll work.

Also, use a mini roller where you can. No brush strokes. You'll get the look of a factory spray job.

    Hi Emma
Where is the cheapest place to get ESP?
I don't really need a whacking big tub!

I got mine on ebay for £25 inc postage. It's a large bottle. I don't know if it comes in smaller ones. But you can do 100 bits of furniture with it. It's a clear liquid and you just wipe it on. :)

Thank you, I thought your doors looked similar and they look great. I don't have a crafty bone in my body but thought I would give it a go ... Hopefully have a before and after pic to post soon :)

I have been banned from "obtaining" any more bits of furniture for the house, as Mr Minimalist (OH) is getting a bit stressed. HOWEVER, he didn't specify that it applied to the garden, so this week I did a spot of skip diving and rescued this little beauty.

Am thinking sand down, grey undercoat and a dull white topcoat, sand down edges to show grey, mirror behind, clematis growing around it, Bobs your uncle garden feature to hide stark fence panel.

But seeing as this will be open to the elements, should I protect it and what with?

OH NOT amused!! Come to think of it neither will the neighbours be in a minute when I get the power sander out.

I'd put some exterior varnish on top to be on the safe side
