    ANNIE SLOAN vs AUTENTICO!

Hello all! A quick question; I see that Annie Sloan chalk paint gets mentioned a lot on here. I have bought some Autentico chalk paint (which seems to have a greater range of colours). I have painted 2 thin coats of Ivory colour (as directed on tin) on an old pine headboard and it definitely needs more coverage! Just wondered if any of you have tried both makes, and if so, do you have a preference? Thanks in advance! : )

Just after some inspiration on what to do with this table please. I really don't like the green leather but the glass comes off so I could put some pretty paper in there I suppose.

I painted a pine bed and bedside drawers in Annie Sloan Old White and it took me at least 4 coats to get an even coverage, I think it's just how it is with the lighter colours. People might be interested to know that Rustoleum now sell a "chalky finish furniture paint" in B and Q that works on the same principle as AS. I've just painted my chest of drawers with it and can't see much difference, still to distress and wax though xx

I saw one with lace doilies over craft paper that looked lovely.

Just finished sanding the chest of drawers, and am away to wax. I'm very impressed with the Rustoleum paint. It doesn't feel exactly the same as the Annie Sloan, but I did apply it with a roller (which was fabulously easy!) so that will have affected the texture, but it has sanded like AS, I think is possibly slightly easier to apply than AS, May or may not be more hard wearing, but feels more hard wearing at the moment, and the duck egg is a lovely colour. Well worth considering for those who live quite far from an AS stockists.

How does the cost compare with AS, Pipkin? :)

2 further questions Pipkin…I had a look on diy.com for this paint but can't find it - don't suppose you could post a link?? And do you recommend sanding? and if so when?!(i.e. between coats or just before waxing?) I've now put on a fourth coat (without any sanding) and it's still not looking brilliant. I haven't sanded, but as it's looking rather thickly streaky, i thought i might give it a light sanding and try a 5th coat!

If I remember correctly the Rustoleum was roughly £14 for a 750ml tin, whereas AS is £17-£18 for a 1l tin, so there's not much diff in cost, but you are more likely to live near a B&Q ,so AS can be more expensive with postage. Both sell tester size pots for £5.

Mandy, with the AS I sanded after painting. I found that it sanded beautifully, the dust (which is hard on the chest so wear a mask if you can) was like the finest talc and the sanded surface was as smooth as silk (I used the finest sandpaper I could find, think it was 320 grade). I had intended originally for it not to be distressed, but I found it impossible to get an even, full coverage with a nice finish, so I distressed it, but ended up loving it in the end.

Some people recommend sanding after waxing as it causes less dust btw.

The Rustoleum is pretty new so not sure it's on the B&Q website yet, you may have to phone or pop in to check. Will go look.
