Shabby Chic; Volume III

Hi,
the projects on here are great
I'm hoping to do a bureau at some point and half a dresser too.... I just want to get christmas out of the way first, then try and find some pieces to do up! I can't find a bureau anywhere locally, they all seem to be being snapped up
I could save to buy one already done up, but the ones I have seen, the people that do them don't touch the insides and I'm not keen on that...
anyway, hello from me and well done on all your projects:xmastree:0 -
hi chrissythechippy & welcome:santa2:
dont give up on finding a bureau, it took me months to find one & i recently found one for £10 in a charity shop.
i agree about the inside not being done, i dont like that look either, & i also cant bring myself to 'shabby' up my recently painted furniture:rotfl:
although i'm in the middle of painting mine & am going to leave the inside til after xmas as i can see that painting all the little compartments is going to be very time consuming & i dont want to rush it as i want to get my decs up. i live in a flat & it has to be painted in the living room so just need the outside to match for the time being.'there goes an old transexual, last seen heading south,

I'm struggling for a bureau too at the moment. I found some nice solid wood desks on the bay the other day but DS said "Mum, I'd really like one with the fold up lid....." "?" "Erm do you mean like I showed you on the computer, a bureau?" "Yes please!"
So, bureau it is.

I bought this ages ago
and turned it into this.
I still need to change the hinges and get a couple of handles but I think it looks so much better already. It was a cheap mdf cabinet I bought from Ebay for £15 which is more than I wanted to pay (I am so tight LOL) but they all went for so much that I had to bite the bullet. It sat in my lounge for a couple of months and then I had to move it out becuase we were getting the room redecorated so it forced me to fix it up. It has some cheap pine attached to the front and sides to give it a panelled effect. I saw this on a blog someone linked to and thought it looked great. I think it makes a real difference.0 -
Shirl that is absolutely fantastic I love the panel effect you have done it looks brilliant I am sooooo impressed0

That looks brilliant Shirl, the panneling really makes it. I remember seeing that blog and thought I'd do that on something one day...0

 Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd ask advice from you knowledgeable people;)
We're planning on some decorating in the new year. A few rooms are looking tired and I fancy a change rather than just freshen them up with more of the same. That's largely the 'royal' we as OH will be doing most of work and I'll be advising! I like the shabby chic/country house/ Old French sort of style. I won't be completely idle and will do any soft furnishings etc that are needed.
What I wanted to ask is if any of you know of threads on here that are about decorating/interior design ideas and/or sites/blogs/magazines or whatever that you use yourselves for inspiration?
TIA and Happy New Year!0 -

Hi maman. **Happy New Year to you too**
For lots of photos in the style you like just go on google, click images and type in 'shabby french chic' or whatever style you like and then if you click on the photos they sometimes take you to blogs, online magazines etc. I can while away hours doing this, with shabby chic, crochet etc
Hope that helps
