Your old place looked great NewlySingle, I can imagine how frustrated and excited you must be. Whilst getting my single girl flat was very bittersweet, I had the most fun decorating on a budget.

I picked up a lovely owl doorstop from B&M for £3.99...it's almost identical to the £22 Laura Ashley one!! Will try get a photo up on my homepage soon of the B&M one for comparison.

Our kitchen is finally starting to take shape - walls plastered and our first wall unit is going up as I type. Still a long way from finished though *sigh*
Whats B&M? I love that owl doorstop so, so cute :)

Ladies, I need some help. I am about to eBay a seriously shabby chic small cabinet but am tempted to cover it with CK tissues... but it is polished/painted. Would it not work?
    TIA :)
    xoxoxo

If you rub it with fine sandpaper then give it a wipe it will help the tissues stick. I normally use white craft glue to stick tissues then once everythings dry you varnish it to seal :)
If you want an aged look there are some great scrap-booking products that will do that....
Here's an assemblage picture in progress showing the tissues onto canvas
(I separated them into single ply as it works better)
and here's another pic with them in the "aged" finished picture
Depending on the effect you're after they look good with a white or cream painted background showing through :)

I've just made one a bit like that from a pattern in a magazine. My mother presented it to me and requested one for Christmas. Really easy and cheap to make too.

    Thanks for the tips.

It is actually very pretty and painted duck egg blue, so I might leave it as it is. I don't want to wreck it so will just list it as it is.

Hello everyone I have been awol for quite some time but I am so chuffed my dresser was finished today and is now having pride of place in my dining room. I have decided not to put the top on for now and work on that in the new year. I am a little sad that my piano has been chopped up today to make way for the dresser but hey ho nobody wants old piano's these days ! Here are some pics of before and after:

Shelley...Lovely dresser and the dark top enhances the whole look :)
Such a shame about your piano...but i suppose even if you had put it on freecycle, people maybe wouldnt pay to get it delivered, and it would need a piano trolley etc to move it. Shame though :(

Thanks girls and yes Bibbitybob I am deadly serious I couldn't even give it away - gutted !! It was over 100 yrs old and in serious need of attention and nobody wanted it. It was too heavy to take to the tip so my FIL took a sledge hammer to it and it is now on his fire keeping him warm :( I was upset but my lovely new dresser has made up for it. Here is my piano R.I.P

  • After seeing some wonderful pictures of renovated furniture I thought I'd post a few of my own.

Here is a rocking chair I bought some time ago, stipped all the wadding off, sanded it down fully and then re-upholstered and re-varnished.

    Before :

    After :

I renovated the stool in the second picture too.

Oh how frustrating that must have been for you!! and such a shame. But at least it's keeping you all warm now, so it is still being loved (made me laugh, we've just installed an open fire and OH's favourite phrase at the moment is "we can burn it!" :D).
