  • Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm hoping it will be here tomorrow so would like to get it painted, or polished on the weekend:)

I think it would look lovely with wallpaper in the back, but only you know what will suit your home best. I'd definitely paint it, but then I paint everything :p

For those wanting painting advice, I'd suggest reading through the old shabby chic thread - there were loads of questions and answers on there and it might save you waiting around for someone to answer on here :)

In brief though, I sand to give a good key for the paint, use a primer/undercoat in one (B&Q 'colours' range do a good one in a white plastic tin) until the wood stops showing through (often 3 coats for dark wood) then paint a topcoat with eggshell paint (I use Farrow & Ball but there are plenty out there). Sand between all coats for a really good finish. HTH.

Personally I'd give it a good sand, and then paint it; maybe picking out the detail on the side in another colour

It would look good with wallpaper in the back; but I have never been that successful in getting it not to wrinkle, or be wonky!!!

I keep coming on here today and forgetting to post! I went to ikea last night and got some fab paper cake cases and a 3 tier oval glass cake stand. I spent ages umming and ahhing over a sheepskin rug too! Got a lush jug which I wanted last time but forgot to pick up and this time it was put in a random spot with no others around to be seen. It must have been meant to be :D
Look forward to more pictures. DH and I will be "discussing" paint colours and wall paper this weekend so keep your fingers crossed for me please!

Can anyone help, I remember a few people talking about a sanding liquid that they got online designed for under water based paint. Can anyone remember what it was called and where was the best place to get it from?
    Thanks

I'm shabby chicing(?) up a rocking chair for my mum as a Christmas Present and i need a little advice if anyone could help please.

I got the rocking chair from freecycle:

Which i have so far sanded, only i ran out of sand paper so i haven't quite finished that part :P

I'm planning to paint it white (as you may guess) but i'm unsure on what paint to get. I haven't got a great deal of money. Also do i need to put a finish on it?

Also just incase your wondering, i have a seat part (which i took off for sanding), i'm covering it in this:

Sorry its not the best picture of fabric in the world.

    Lovely fabric!
If you want a standard white then I would primer, undercoat and paint in emulsion and then varnish in acrylic varnish, which does not yellow with time.
If you want an off white or cream then it is worth looking at some of the more expensive paints - you'll find many Farrow and Ball favourites listed on this thread! If you find and F&B shade that you love, check on other brand's charts to see if you can achiecve it more cheaply!
I tend to use emulsion and varnish because that is so much easier to work with than gloss. If you'd rather use one product then I suggest satinwood.
