Love your furniture:T a bargain....hold off and don't buy any new knobs etc until you've painted them. I did a wardrobe like that and was amazed how much more I liked the knobs & handle after I finished and/or you could always spray paint them with metal paint.0

Can anyone tell me which stage I am missing for the picture to not paste directly to the forum please? So cross as I managed to do it last time.
I am either getting an enormous picture or as above!:o
Oh ok, now I have this. Anyway I just wanted to show you a picture frame I painted at the weekend. It was half price from a charity shop and cost £1.
It was bright yellow and I painted it with two coats of Wickes chalk paint, dark brown (Grizzly) and in between used Vaseline so paint would not stick. Then painted with two coats of whiteish colour (Harvest Moon).
I was experimenting with the technique really but was pleasantly surprised and will go on to paint some larger items now.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Thanks Chalky. I love the picture. It comes from a book by Cecil Beaton which I bought in a CS years ago. I was selling on Amazon at the time and thought it may be worth something - not so.
Anyway I shoved it away in a cupboard, but there were so many gorgeous pictures in it, that when I painted the frame, I knew I would find something perfect for it from the book.
The boy is called Alexander Quennell, taken in 1973 - infact just googled him and there it was!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Advice please - a friend has got an old antique pine dressing table. Not antique - old MFI stuff and she wants to shabby chic it for her daughter. It is a cs buy and has been painted and stickered so is a mess. I was thinking she could sand it and chalk paint it then wax. What do you peeps think - sound ok? Thanks in advance0

I don't have any experience of chalk paint, but I think the stickers definitely should be removed. Suspect sanding won't be the answer to doing that - the glue on them will just clog up the sandpaper/sanding discs (if using electric sander). I'm sure that someone who knows better than me will be along soon, but I think there are products to take off this kind of glue/gum that can be used. Good luck to your friend!0 -

yes - good idea - but definitely get the stickers off. I use Mr Sheen spray on stickers - but wd40, elbow grease, and scraping are needed on some. Clean it with sugar soap and rinse well before sanding off lumpy bits of paint. Don't sand too vigorously overall as the original varnish is protecting the pine from knot bleeding.0 -
