I didn't go to a boot fair yesterday or today, instead I turned out the cupboard under the stairs and it was like the boot fair came to me! Hubs was very kind and hung 3 mirrors and 7 pictures for me :)

Very excited - a while ago I bought an old style (but new and in second store) map of London printed onto silk. I got two for £7 with intention of putting one in our sons bedroom. Today I found a frame to fit one! For a whole massive £1. Now I need to spray frame in black as want it to look smart and not to oldie worldie and I need a black mount. I might even sell this one as the beginning of my £10 challenge.....

Help needed for renovating garden furniture please Hello,
I was thinking of replacing my wooden garden furniture but it seems very expensive so I thought I might try to renovate instead.
I have a good quality teak table and two chairs. Two ornate metal chairs and a cheap wooden and metal bench.
They are all a bit weather worn except the metal chairs.
I tried garden furniture renovator but it did virtually nothing so I am thinking about paining them funky colours. Any advice or tips on this please as I am not very arty or good at diy

I've recently painted some teak chairs & table in Cuprinol 2.5L Garden Shades - Forget - Me - Not" and also Seagrass. They got 2 coats of paint but no preparation as they were newish. I also did a small teak table in chalk paint, but haven't put it outside yet - I'm told it weathered gracefully and doesn't stain even though not top coated.
Mine are all fairly tasteful as I'm in a rural conservation area but I nearly went for this ...

I sprayed iron chairs green and a table pink. They need re-doing, but they looked fab. Nice bit of colour in the winter and now that they are a bit past if they are tucked away in the corner as 'sculpture'...

If you don't actually want colour then the best thing for worn teak furniture is boiled linseed oil. Ideally you give outdoor furniture a good brush and a coat of oil at the start of every year. Paint it on and let it soak in. After a couple of hours give it a rub to remove any excess oil.

Has anyone ever found a decent paint stripper? I have been given a bookshelf that is think with old coats of paint and want to strip it in the easiest possible way energy wise. Sitting pondering this whilst I can't sleep, as you do!

I used to use nitr0m0res years ago but believe the formula has changed and it isn't so effective now. If its solid wood (not veneered or chipboard) then I'd use a heat gun and scraper. Smells vile and is easy to catch the wood if you're not careful but it does get everything off without chemicals.

I spent many an hour (hundreds of hours) doing this to all the woodwork in my first house to strip it all back. Would probably been easier to remove all the wood and start again but I was a determined soul back then.
