I have an old metal singer sewing machine metal stand that has been out in my gargen for about 5 years, it has started to rust. I would like to make this into a table. The stand is not completely rusty, so the advice i am looking for is how do i remove the rust and what prepartions do i need to do. This table will be for inside my house.
Hi, you'd need to remove as much rust as possible with wire brushes and wire wool. Then paint in Red Oxide Primer which is rust inhibiting. Then you can paint in your desired paint. Red Oxide will come in a can or as a spray, as will your chosen metal paint. Good luck!0 -
Thank you for all the advice, will be hitting the shops tomorrow for all the stuff that is needed and make a start to it this week. Will put photo's up once I am finished.0

Today, I went to our local 2nd chance furniture, saw as I was walking out an old electric (PAT tested) singer sewing machine and sewing machine table. Priced at £24. Stopped for a quick look and the man offered it for £10! I have nowhere to put it, no need for it, but I am very tempted to go back and get it! Someone talk sense into me.....0

if it will encourage you to take up sewing then get it at once! Make clothes, cushions, curtains etc. If it's just going to gather dust then leave it for someone else!0

you have more self control/sense than me ... though I did pass on a box of naked Barbie dolls at .25p each today0

Ooh go and get it! They make lovely garden tables. I can just see it covered in flower pots!
