I finally decided on the colour for my kitchen walls - so I ordered the F&B paint today.
New windows & doors installed. Also new boiler/radiators and piping. :j
Starting to feel more excited about the house renovations now. Today I bought cream Metro wall tiles for the utility area.
I even made a decision about what colour hand towels to have in the cloakroom. So difficult when you stand in a shop and there is a choice of 10-12 colours.
I have also started to buy new tea towels and bed sheets. I am going to make the duvet covers and pillowcases.
I found some lovely bathroom fittings in BHS so feel I am getting somewhere.
I am having a problem finding a slimline dishwasher and a fridge in stainless steel by the same manufacturer.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

It's a great feeling when it suddenly all starts clicking into place isn't it. Have you tried asking at an independent smaller appliance store for your appliances, they normally have a fantastic knowledge of what's available. We got our fridge freezer from a local one then mentioned we'd seen a dishwasher in a high street chain, they told us not to buy it and explained why (you can't buy parts for it so as soon as it breaks down you've had it) and price matched us a better machine. I then cheekily haggled as we were buying both items from them (told them we'd get cash back via another website) and they matched that too!
My floor is finally finished (no ripples), it got sanded, cleaned, filled, sanded, cleaned, white spirited, varnished x 2 coats, hand sanded back to get a nice smooth finish, cleaned and another 2 coats of varnish. It looks amazing and feels so lovely to walk on. I'm shattered though and have muscles where I didn't know they existed.
I've tiled and grouted the cooker splash back and caulked all round the windows, just need to finish the painting on those now. dad is coming to build me a larder on Tuesday and box in some more pipes, then it's final wall prep, a bit more paint, wooden cladding to be cut and fixed, a bit more tiling, blinds to be fitted and then start moving everything back in.
I had a plate rack made which arrived this week and it's gorgeous, I didn't go for a finish on it so I can stain it to match the rest of the wood, so that's this afternoons job. Also had my roll of fabric arrive to make door curtains, table clothes and cushions. Can't even get to my sewing machine at the moment so they will have to wait for a week or so.
Can't wait to get my house back!
Picked up a gorgeous Lloyd loom style sewing box on legs at a boot fair last weekend, it's perfect height for doubling up as a side table in the conservatory. It was very manky so it got scrubbed with bleach, the insides were all falling to bits (peach velvet with gold trim...hmmmmm) so I've taken them out and will replace with something a little more tasteful. The box itself has been painted 1978 purple which is just the best colour in the world. It's all I had spare and it's cleaned it up lovely. Box cost me £1.50, time, effort and paint were all free!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Hi there Im getting quite into this upcycling trend and have a quick question, is there an alternative to the Annie Sloan soft wax, I did some whicker baskets last week in chalk paint but didnt bother to wax them, but now have been given an old large footstool which I have stripped of fabric etc and have started to chalk paint the legs, which will need waxing/varnishing when Iv painted them any help would be appreciated, thank youSPC No. 295 - SPC No10 target £350

Yes you can use any soft furniture wax. I find hers a little sticky. It doesn't behave very wax-like as you can add paint to it or paint over it. You can't do that with other waxes. I prefer Liberon paste wax but you can use any.0 -
