It's a working electric sewing machine which someone could make good use of! Garden tables can be made of anything, and out of sewing machine tables once the machines are beyond repair.
Meames - you could get it and sell your Nan's if the one in the 2nd chance shop is a better one. Unless the machine in the shop would be of more use to you as a sewing machine then the one you have then it doesn't seem worth the hassle0 -

Today, I went to our local 2nd chance furniture, saw as I was walking out an old electric (PAT tested) singer sewing machine and sewing machine table. Priced at £24. Stopped for a quick look and the man offered it for £10! I have nowhere to put it, no need for it, but I am very tempted to go back and get it! Someone talk sense into me.....
Billy bargain...what are you waiting for...go get it!0 -
andycrichton wrote: »An alternative to wax is patina which is a polyurethane gel. It is on the sheeny side as in patina of wood. It is super tough for such a thin coating, . 2 very thin coats, 4 hours between coats, dries quickly and 2 days later is coffee cup ready.
There is also Osmo Wax oil, which is a super finish and dead easy to apply.
Great posts Andy,
Just about to order some patina and get on with sanding down the table I have just bough off ebay. Did you stain the top beforehand or is that the colour the patina gives the wood - doesn't look at all "yellow" which is what i am hoping to avoid.0 -
Just wondering where you all buy your plaster of paris from. I've spotted an old bureau type thing or telephone bench - not sure which, in CS for £10 ( may not be there still now). It's mahogany with a lift up lid. I was thinking toy box or shoe storage.
Don't know the first thing about upcycling though. I once tried to spray paint a mirror i loved that was outdated, but wrecked it so put it on freecycle.
I also have teak type chest of drawers in my room that i would love to paint a duck egg blue to match my predominantly teal bedroom; but don't know where to start!GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 Jul £134.25/£150 Aug £72.08/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. The Range. I had to ask for it as couldn't see the box on the shelf. It was £5 / £6 and will last for years0

Hi Rustyo
Ordinarily I use Patina "neat" - regarding yellow - you might want to test it to see how you rate it, because straight out the tin, patina isnt clear like an acrylic varnish. But then again, natural patina on aged wood is not clear anyway, so can't really criticise it for that.
Add and mix oil stain or oil paint to Patina and apply 2 coats. I have taken patina down literally to black, by adding oil stain to it, so the sky is the limit for tinting potential. Again, always test before ploughing on too quickly and regretting at leisure. It is no fun getting part way through the decorating and you don't know the next step.0
