hello everyone.
I have had a wooden 'farmhouse' chair in the garage for about 6 months. I'm wanting to sand it back or strip it but it's looks like it's had a coat of primer all over then a horrid topcoat in places. It's horrendous to look at but a lovely solid chair. It cost me a quid at carboot
Any idea how I can fix it (ideally bare wood) for very little money?
Any help would be fab.0 -
Personally, I would start off with nitromors. It's what I used for my dressing chest. It saves some of the leg work and saves the detail of the piece. It can be hard going though
.
Good luck

Thanks - so I then need to use a primer? Also, do I need to paint with another paint before using FB? Sorry, I have no idea what to use

Thanks for the nitromors tip. Looks like a small tin will cost about £4 so resonable. Going to go at it with sandpaper I think but no doubt be fed up within 5 minutes and be heading the that B&* place.
Here's a pic
it doesn't look too bad in the picture but heres a close up of the handiwork
think someone has tried to shabby chic and given up.
I would like it wooden not white although fear i'll have to end up painting it. either way the brush strokes are so course it needs a good sand.
very sturdy chair, not giving up on it!0 -
Me again
I have bought another item off eBay but this one is for my DD's room and she definitely wants me to shabby chic it, it needs a lot of work. Please help, do I put on a undercoat (if yes what paint?) I am going to do the top coat in FB Clunch.
Absolutely love this desk - sooooo jealous. Please upload finished photo

natc, I will when it's done! Just trying to decide how to do it. DD wants it white - I' scared as it's my first big project :eek:0

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I last SC anything but today I got back on it and painted up a standard lamp and a telephone table that my mum was given when she bought some chairs at a boot sale.

after:
I used my ticking fabric to recover the seat and LA linen eggshell for the paint. I love it, just need a posh telephone to go on it now!0 -
wow i love it.. it looks fab.. we were given one of these very same telephone tables a few months ago and i was going to cover the seat in ticking stripe but i wasnt sure if it was worth the effort but seeing what youve done it looks great..0

Hya all, not been here for a while...it has been quiet!!
Love the telephone table vicki, and bebs, I wouldn't let paint get anywhere near your lovely desk...but if you got it for DD...Do you have another unit she can use so you can save this one from the paint??
I am trying to get things made for Christmas, both presents and things to sell at fairs and I felt I needed to get all my crafting stuff together. Managed to find this 1920s sideboard at the local Red Cross furniture shop:
I haven't done it up yet as I am too busy crafting atm!! As you can see I have filled it already
.
I was going to paint it cream, but it is oak rather than pine, with its original bakelite handles. Thank goodness I am not deciding until the New Year!! I might strip it down and wax it, it if come up a nice light-oak colour, which will match my dining table
.
Must get to bed soon....washing down and painting DS2's room tomorrow, as well as more crafting....it's all go!!
