    Well we bought some basic furniture for the bed room when we first moved in and it looks like untreated pine. It was cheap and the idea was we'd paint it.....but that was ages ago lol!! :o

    So now we've got some time I'd like to paint it shabby chic style, it will need new handles as they are wooden knobs at the moment but wasn't sure where to pick them up from and wasn't sure really where to start with painting them.

    you can get really nice knobs in places like B&Q... (or the local version of)...

    but i think it can look really nice if you leave the horizontal surfaces waxed pine, and then the knobs waxed pine alos, and the rest painted cream...

    i have plans to do this to the dresser that i picked up this weekend... (i need to get the table out of the kitchen first though...)

    Hiya

    Also re : knobs I have just bought some from the range if you have one near you for my kitchen cupboards, Ill see if I can add photos this evening, they were around £1.50 each and look really good on shabby chic stuff, they are white / cream ceramic with a blue design painted on them.

    HTH

    good luck with the makeover

    ahhh if DH could see this question he would tell you to run away now - I love the range

    Its sort of like a cheaper wilkinsons with a focus on more specialist stuff inparts - for example the one near us has a fab craft and art bit.

    It sells loads of home stuff, from kitchen stuff like utensils, glassware and crockery, to decorative things (ours has a fab shabby chic area - DH has sadly banned me for the good of the world economy :eek:) like vases and bits. It sells soft furnishings, diy things and a little bit of food - like sweets and cakes (their raspberry liquorice is lovely
    )

    For some things the prices are amazingly low but I have to admit there are some slightly overpriced gimmicky things. Its particularly good for seasonal decorations.

    Oh dear I have probably outed myself as a saddo lol :rotfl:, but to keep it one topic it does really have some lovely shabby chic stuff

  • Hi all,
    I am a long time lurker and admirer of this thread and love the look but find it hard to make the time for a project - young kids etc! . I was recently given an oval mirror with an ornate frame. I think it is wood but painted gold. I would like to paint it to achieve either the classic antique cream distressed finish or maybe paint it a sage green colour. Not sure where to start! Also not sure how to attach a photo of it.
    Can anyone help at all please?
    Many thanks
