About the veg storage. I keep mine in small flip top bins, inside a kitchen cupboard. Potatoes are best kept in the dark, it delays the sprouting of them. I just put a bit of old newspaper in the bottom of the bins. Some veg is kept in the salad drawer of my fridge.
Saves taking up floor space.Keep on trucking!0 -
Thanks for all the suggestions... There's no room in there for another unit, but one of those cream metal stands looks perfect! Now, to find the money for it...
the only problem with that type of stand is that potatoes will be exposed to light, which turns them green and makes them sprout.
I'd go with pretty cloth bags to go with your decor BUT have them lined with black fabric to exclude more light. Cotton is breathable, the bags are washable, and any soil etc will not fall to the floor.
If you really like the stand then look out for pan stands in charity shops and then use a car paint or hammerite spray on it to pretty it up and but baskets and/or cotton bags on the 'shelves' to hold different types of veg.0 -
With regards to the Ercol chairs, you might have a good point about the value of them, maybe it would devalue it too much. I just had a lightbulb moment!!! I have a couple of old chairs at my allotment, so might give it a go on one of those first (I might just forget about the Ercol ones, altogether)
I thought Decoupage was layering the same pictures to get a 3D effect. What I want to do is rip up the paper into ramdom shapes and paste it on, varnishing the whole item, when all covered.
I have a little wooden pencil box, I might give it a go with some cheap wrapping paper, as a later poster suggested.
I'm full of ideas but don't always get around to doing them, I like to dream........
both things can be called decoupage

Sounds like a really good idea to practice on the box and do the chairs from the allotment0 -
I do decoupage occasionally, it's relaxing like doing a jigsaw puzzle. Cheap wrapping paper fell to bits and ripped on me. It was mega cheap and I bought 10 rolls and had the idea of doing china pots(flowerpot covers) but no.
That 3d decoupage, my brother sells that kind of stuff and it creeps me out, and he calls it decoupage much to my horror
I tear out pages from magazines or etc, my best find was the old Past Times catalogue. I used cheapo PVA from Asda last time, but years ago I used to use wallpaper paste.0 -
I did buy some of the Decopatch papers at a craft show. They are really lovely. I used some on photo/picture frames for presents - may be able to find a photo.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Those decoupaged lids are very classy!
I might try some magazines. I have a pile of them at my allotment all about gardens with loads of colorful flowers. Mmmmmm. Will have to go in the morning, and get started on my pencil box.Keep on trucking!0 -

Bargain !
I needed 24 of these so I have just dashed out and bought them, the screws are really long and stick out the other end, unless I am being daft, very likely:)

Most of the screws are very long and have a blanking thread so you can cut them to size (small hacksaw will do the job). Better than them being too short and trying to find screws to fit (the original screws from your old handles may well fit as well so you could try those if you don't want to cut the others down)"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W.
