I primed two with Wilkos primer, and one was done with a vile oil based primer months ago , it took so long to dry I'd moved on.
Then Annie Sloan chalk paint, then Wilkos clear matt quick dry varnish for interior wood, (as I have a tin on the go and want to use it up before the tin lid finally won't shut again). The frames are pretty plain and uninteresting but they fill a space and cover the cracks!
this one was gloss black where the cream is now and had a different print in it originally.
this one was brown shiny varnish
this one was brown varnished wood, it hung in the kitchen for years and was then in a pile of projects.0 -
Plaster of Paris is from The Range. 2.5 kilo box for £5.99.
Bargain! Should last me years!!
I'm using clear beeswax on the top. I've not tried the dark wax on top before so am looking forward to some new experimentation!!:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

If it's not against the rules, I understand some of you have blogs and I would love to be directed towards them please? I currently have fee subscriptions to many of these type of blogs but find it hard to track down UK-based ones. Any (little) knowledge I have has all been gleaned from Blogs so I am great fan of them.
Click on the persons name in any post and click on their homepage if they have one. That takes you to their blog or facebook page. On my sidebar of my blog is a list of my favourite blogs, most of which are from the UK. Happy blog reading!0 -
could someone give me some advice my husband wanted me to give this away to his parents as our house is new and modern but i love to hear it chime.
so i want to paint it with AS chalk paint, what colour should i use?
also would a 100ml tester pot be enough?
its in my hall which is all white with cream floor tiles with a black tile border so any colour could be used but as i have never used AS before i need help choosing a colour.0 -
hello, loving a lot of the projects here, and have been very happily painting various pieces of furniture for years in chalk paint or egshell, but I have a piece of furniture that i'd like to restore from when someone (not me) had made a horrible attempt at partially painting the inside in lime green (it's a vintage oak baristers bookcase, and whilst I love painted furniture, this has not been enhanced by the paintwork).
they had partially covered the inside-back in wallpaper and painted in just emulsion, I think, but it's very old, discoloured and has dried very solid, with drips onto the bits that they hadn't painted. I've removed the bits that were papered and the lovely wood underneath is perfect, but have no idea how to remove the ?water -based paint (I've tested some of the wallpaper and it doesn't dissolve in any of the any of the organic solvents that I have: white spirit/turps/meths) but it doesn't disolve in just water or water and mild detergent.
Other than sanding - which would be a pain as the back is oak tongue and groove - has anyone got any tips? I thought if anyone knew - you lot would!:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -

i have a bookcase that i currently working on, i decided to use DIMITY but once it arrived i decided that i would save that for something else as i want to keep the bookcase white.
What is the best white paint to use that will still look good once i have sanded here and there to make it shabby?

It really depends on how 'white' you want it to be if you know what I mean. I have just painted pine kitchen chairs in F&B House White and I really like it, it's not a stark white, more sort of ivory, I have also used F&B New White which is slightly creamier than House White.
If you were to use Annie Sloan, Old White looks lovely when shabbied and distressed in my opinion.
Hope this helps you to decide, and good luck0 -
Any white paint (apart from budget paints) will do but emulsion will require further protection with wax or varnish. Eggshell (oil based or water based) will not. It all depends on the sheen you're hoping to achieve. I would avoid oil based white gloss like the plague! It ain't what it used to be and yellows very fast. You can get a Dulux water based gloss whish is far better and stays white! But gloss is not used for shabby chiccing really.
